Cornwall UFO -- It's a Bird Damn It.

Based on the responses from our “truth seeking readers,” the consensus is that “the so-called” Cornwall UFO is indeed a bird.

From “my perspective” it’s a no-brainer, as these instances of pics of “objects in the distance” are not uncommon. The indiscretion on this occasion is the premature association by mainstream media to associate the object in question—a bird with a UFO, more specifically, an “exotic craft” of some sort without investigation.

In doing some quick research, I believe the bird to be a “Herring Gull” which is not uncommon on the shores of Great Britain; while preparing some images for examples of other “bird/UFOs,” one of our readers, Lou Zucaro beat me to the punch and offered up this comparison:

Now clearly there is no doubt that the original image is a bird . . . but not unlike “Fox Mulder” there are going to be those who “want” to believe otherwise.

Superstitious types who collect amulets might consider themselves worlds apart from science-fiction nerds who believe in unidentified flying objects, or UFOs. But at least both agree Nyi Roro Kidul, a powerful female genie believed to rule the northern coast of Java, exists.

While most of the amulet collectors travel to the northern coast seeking her charms, the female genie is also a sizzling chat topic, triggering a long discussion at the Yahoo group mailing list BETA-UFO, a UFO hobbyists' community.

Only BETA-UFO calls her a "beautiful alien", instead of a genie.
"In ancient times, Nyi Roro Kidul rode a golden wagon. This is similar to a long-bearded Nordic alien that traveled on a stag-drawn cart from the North Pole to give gifts to children around the world. At that time the wagon and carts were sophisticated enough. Now they (the aliens) fly with UFOs," said the group's moderator Nur Agustinus in one of the discussion threads in January.

Aliens and UFOs might be considered as part of the meeting between science and irrationality that has grown in the United States. In Indonesia, however, UFO and alien fan clubs have blossomed with the rising use of the Internet in the past few years.
Communities of UFO hobbyists all across the country join mailing lists and exchange pictures and information on the internet. Some blog to share thoughts with anyone who happens to drop by their site.

The BETA-UFO community, which was founded by Nur Agustinus in 1997, is the largest of these forums with a total of 750 members on its Yahoo group's mailing list. The mailing list members are scattered throughout all regions of the country.
The community only holds one or two actual meetings every year as they use the Internet to share updates on UFO phenomenons. There are always dozens of replies for every topic posted on the mailing list.

In its portal, www.betaufo.org, the community scrupulously records supposed UFO sightings in Indonesia and other countries -- from the most controversial reports about the Roswell case in New Mexico, United States, in 1947 to the most recent sightings of UFOs on the sky above Mega Kuningan, Central Jakarta.

The reports of extraterrestrial beings added to the mailing list and the portal are combined with newspaper clippings on abductions and sighting of "extra-dimensional" beings like genies or haunting spirits.

"We list every report from almost everybody. Nobody mocks their sightings, no matter how absurd they are," said Donny Tahir, the community's public relations officer.

Repeat reports about extra-dimensional beings and aliens are inevitable in the group's archives, he said.

Donny admitted that not all the reports were true and sometimes people only wanted to fool around, but the community's leaders always let readers decide whether or not to believe a report.

UFOs and aliens are nothing new to Indonesia. The first reported sighting was from Alor island, East Nusatenggara, in 1959. Local police reported six mysterious "non-human beings" on the island.

The central government set up the National Space and Aviation Agency in 1962, with a mission to receive reports about extraterrestrial beings in the country. The first chief of the organization, R.J. Salatun, was also one of the first pioneers of UFO believers in the country.

Another hobbyist, Michael Gumelar, who also runs the blog www.ufo-ic.blogspot.com and a mailing list for UFO discussions, said it was normal for debunkers, those who did not believe in UFOs, to raise their eyebrows over their activities.

But he said not all UFO believers or hobbyists based their beliefs on fantasies or movies. He claimed his discussion forum put more weight on scientific and technological aspects of UFOs and aliens.

"We're through all those 'are-UFOs-for-real' discussions. We talk about more advanced topics like the possibilities of the spaceships' technology; whether they use ion-powered crafts so they can fly fast without making any noise," he said.
Michael said his mailing list had 63 members, including scientists who could talk seriously about the phenomenon.

Astronomer Ferry Simatupang said although the possible existence of UFOs always raised the curiosity of many people, including scientists, there had not been any scientific research on the phenomenon in Indonesia.

Ferry, who is a member of the BETA-UFO mailing list, said he is "open-minded" about the existence of these objects but refuses to research the phenomenon seriously.

"These kinds of studies are like soap bubbles; they may end up as nothing. Professional scientists who live from their work are mostly reluctant to conduct such research for a living," he said.

Ferry said given the general lack of research funding in the country, he chose to play it safe by picking other research topics where more tangible results were possible.

Halesowen "UFO" sighting

Stunned residents are claiming to have seen dozens of “UFOs“ in the sky above Halesowen.

Witnesses have described how they saw a “long string of lights” moving slowly over the town at around 7.30pm last night.

Richard Wells, of Waxland Road, said he was with around a dozen people who watched around 60 to 70 lights moving slowly in the sky toward Birmingham.
Richard said: “They were all travelling in the same direction, toward Birmingham and were very slow and silent, they kept a straight line and didn’t move at all.

“It all lasted for around 20 minutes, I called some of my neighbours outside and we all stood there watching them - it was amazing.

“I told some of the children it must have been Santa’s reindeer on a trial run!”
Kevin Mallen described how saw the lights while fishing with friends in Haden Hill Park, Cradley Heath.

He said: “We couldn’t believe what was happening, it was very surreal. I would be amazed if nobody else saw them.”

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said they had not been contacted by residents about the incident.

21 UFO sightings in police 'X-files'

THEY are more used to dealing with calls reporting crime and anti-social behaviour.

But Nottinghamshire Police have also experienced a number of rather other-worldly enquiries from members of the public.

New figures from the force reveal a total of 21 UFO sightings in the county were recorded in 11 calls to the force control room between November 1 in 2003 and October 31 this year.

One caller reported seven sightings in Eastwood, followed by another five from two callers in Newark.

A Notts Police spokesman said: "While we would advise the public to contact the Civil Aviation Authority to report any sightings, we do receive the occasional report of a UFO to the control room.

"In the event of a call, we would contact the East Midlands air traffic control to see if they are aware of anything that could be a UFO and report the sighting to them."

In May this year, police quashed extra-terrestrial speculation by saying a suspected UFO seen in Beeston was actually a force helicopter.
The Post reported how residents claimed to have seen a bright and stationary triangular light hovering over the town square, with a loud noise at 11.30pm on Saturday, May 10.

Further sightings were reported in Long Eaton and Ilkeston.
But a police spokesman said the helicopter had been investigating a green laser flashed at the aircraft from the ground. Officers later confiscated the laser from an unnamed youth.

The new figures on UFO sightings follow the release in August last year of a Ministry of Defence list of UFO sightings across Britain, including ten in Notts bet- ween 1999 and 2006.

They included one sighting of two lines of lights in the sky over RAF Newton in 1987, said to look like a "flying football pitch".

The information was released after a series of requests under the Freedom of Information Act.

PC Lee Roberts, of Radford Road Police Station, the leader of the Ashfield Para- normal Investigation Unit, said: "Our unit has been inundated with calls from places including Eastwood, South Normanton, Hucknall and Sutton-in-Ashfield.
"A lot have been reporting lights in the sky and unknown formations.
"I think people have become more aware of our work. We've had people contact us 12 years after they saw something they couldn't explain. They said they hadn't reported it because they didn't know who to go to."

On January 26, 2008 residents from Orange and LA County, Anaheim, and Brea, California were witness to a very unusual but spectacular UFO event. Numerous people watched as an object fell from the night sky and to their amazement it came to a complete stop while in flight. Most folks thought at first they were witnessing a meteor falling to earth until the object stopped and hovered, leaving everyone scratching their heads. While these objects sat and moved around the sky, aircraft were seen and appeared to be checking out these objects. As just about all of the eyewitnesses mentioned to me, they are baffled at no mention in any of the newspapers over the event, or media in general. I must admit, that makes me wonder why not, when so many people witnessed this really unusual event in the night sky.

There ended up being two extremely bright objects that sat stationary for a short time, then moved back and forth as if they were lost. I spoke to a man today on the telephone and he said it was the most bizarre thing he has ever witnessed in his life. The fellow said he lives very close to the John Wayne Airport in Orange County and has witnessed just about every fixed wing aircraft, helicopter and anything else that we would class as normal until January 26, 2008 when his beliefs were shaken. The gentleman told me he got into his vintage Datsun 280Z sport car and at a high rate of speed, he pursued the unknown objects and tried to get a better and longer view, if not a photo on his laptop webcam.As the man watched, he realized that two of the lights were not like anything he had ever seen, and the light closest to him was what appeared to be an airplane heading toward the two much larger and much brighter objects. The objects were very large and very bright in comparison, a white-ish to yellow-ish orange color, almost flame like, at first, but much brighter and steadier than that. They were oblong shaped from his perspective. They had a definite shape, not mere points of very bright light.
There also appeared to be some sort of aircraft circling in very tight circles, as soon as these objects came to a stop at cloud base. Because of the tightness of the circles, he took it to be a helicopter. This would have made a total of four objects, the two bright steady “orbs”, an airplane, and helicopter.
All this transpired in no more than 10-15 seconds. The whole formation seemed to then move in a direction away from his position, toward Los Angeles and got lower in the sky and was obscured by palm trees and buildings which were near him.

Two Other Eyewitnesses
Another couple, a husband and wife were driving west bound at about 6:00pm PST. In the sky was a bright, glowing light falling toward earth with a bright tail of light. Their first thought was, that it was a falling star, but both of them quickly realized it was huge and too close to the earth for that and said to each other, its going to crash. The object stopped falling and appeared to hover, the tail of light extinguished and the main ball of light remained very bright. It faded in and out and then traveled horizontally very quickly. Another glowing light seemed to be circling around it in a wide pattern.
Both were very bright lights, brighter than airplane landing lights and farther away from these two was another light, blue and very small. It seemed to be circling these objects in a very wide pattern and they thought it to be an airplane watching the phenomenon. They didn’t pull over and kept driving toward the objects, but, they got lower to the horizon and they lost sight of them behind trees as the road dipped. When the folks got back to an unobstructed spot, the lights were gone. The event lasted about 5-10 minutes. Despite the highly visible, quite spectacular and unusual display in the night sky, not one report of it could be found on news stations or in the OC Register. The couple in discussing it’s location, estimated that it was approximately 50 miles away which would make it over LA County, even though they were seeing it from Orange County.

More Witnesses: Sky Over Anaheim, California
A witness was getting ready to enter the 57 Fwy South from Imperial Hwy in Brea, California when he saw what initially appeared to be a falling star. Within seconds from the first sighting, a second flame looking light flew in the same direction as the first. They would stop and a bright light would emerge and then start moving again. Every time they started to move, it looked like a ball/tail of fire. He saw an aircraft that was initially heading north and start to circle the area and that is when the objects vanished. He has never seen anything like this. His wife and kids also saw the same objects. The man stayed up most of the night thinking of what it might have been.

Two Other Eyewitnesses
A guy and his girl friend were going to dinner before their winter formal. They were on their way to Olive Garden when they saw what looked like a comet. It was falling at first and it had a tail, giving him reason to think it was a comet. He jokingly said, oh its a UFO and as he said that it moved back up and hovered for about 30 seconds right next to another identical object. One of the objects disappeared into the clouds while the other was moving from left to right and in flat circular patterns. It did this for about three minutes until it also disappeared into the clouds.

Anaheim, California A Family Watched The UFO Event
A man’s family were headed east on the 91 freeway at Beach Blvd. when his son noticed bright lights to the north-east, towards Ontario. They all watched for 3-5 minutes as 2-3 bright lights shone brightly and were stationary. Then they fell towards earth with a tail, much like a meteor. The strange thing was the objects that were falling came to a complete stop, then the light would go out, and reappear some seconds later in the same location. The husband was driving and could not focus completely on the event, but his family was in rapt attention. Traffic on the 91 freeway slowed to a crawl, which may be related to everyone watching what the folks were seeing. No mention on the news or anywhere

UFO Pursued by Military Helicopter in Washington, USA

WASHINGTON, USA - A military helicopter was photographed pursuing a super fast UFO in Washington State, America last week.

A High resolution image taken at a speed that freezes the rotor blades of the helicopter could not capture more than a blur of the UFO being pursued.

James Gilliland's ECETI Ranch is the location where UFO enthusiasts gather to watch "lightships" at night and hyper velocity UFOs by day.

Mr Gilliland is often ridiculed by the Billy Meier UFO group ( religion ) which appears to claim exclusive rights to authorized UFO encounters. Mr Gilliland said "These photographs were taken by guests with multiple eyewitnesses just a few of hundreds of photos and 70 hours of footage along with witnesses like triple PhD Boeing Engineers, Air Force Base Commanders, pilots like Pierre and Nigel as well as physicists from all walks of life."

"This group is well known for attacking all other researchers, contactees, crop circle researchers and anyone outside of their camp. There are several total contradictions in their story, the contacts stopped in the late 70's according to his video and his sons testimony at the International UFO Congress and his Contact notes say there are over 7,000 people being contacted by his' "Advanced ETs" which seem to not always tell the truth"

"As Billy Meier being the only contacted and prophet of, "Spirit Form"what they call God I find this totally ridiculous. Considering his history of being in prison, joining the foreign legion to get out, deserting, then bounty hunting, etc it seems God would have made a little better choice."

"His actions and the overwhelming evidence proves to the contrary. Not just the evidence here but around the world. Beware of anyone who says they have exclusive rights and connections to off world visitors and God."

The United States government knows something about the UFOs seen over Washington last week as it is the only entity that owns a black Chinook like the one trying to pursue the UFO.

ARE UFOs ALIVE?

Fay Clark, the publisher of Hiawatha Books, who died on October 23, 1991, was an early mentor of mine. When I was just beginning to explore seriously the strange, the unusual, and the unknown, it seemed that Fay knew everyone in the psychic, paranormal, and UFO field from coast to coast. He opened many doors for me--and he opened corners of my mind that might have remained shut far longer if not for his guidance and inspiration.

An extra bonus for me, was that Fay was an absolute dead-ringer for the great motion picture actor Claude Rains, even to his manner of speaking. Sometimes I truly felt as though I was receiving instruction from the Invisible Man, Sir John Talbot, or Mr. Jordan.

I want to share this remarkable account of a UFO sighting, circa 1973, from Fay in his own words:

I had been investigating UFOs for twenty-two years, but the sighting that completely changed my view of the phenomenon occurred at Lone Pine, California. My wife and I observed a UFO resting on a small grove of aspen trees. We had been attracted to the area by a terrifically bright light that was so intense we were unable to look directly at it.

Then the light subsided somewhat and we could see the clear outline of the object. All the way around it were openings in its side. The light began to grow until it covered nearly the entire area of the object. As it grew in size, it lost its brilliance and became a lavender color. When the light reached nearly the entire size of the object, the illumination began to shrink down again until it got to the very brilliant white portion again, which, if my judgment were correct, would probably have been about twenty feet in diameter. Then the light would again increase its size to maybe three-quarters or four-fifths of the size of the entire object, and it would be that lavender color.

This process of expansion and contraction of light continued, and my wife and I realized that it was matching the rhythm of our respiration rate.

We became aware that the object was increasing its tempo. We saw one edge of the UFO raise so that it was no longer level with the tops of the trees. In the length of time that it took me to turn my head, the object had moved ten miles out over Death Valley. I know it was ten miles, because we drove out underneath it.

The thing that really amazed my wife and me was that it took off at that tremendous speed instantly--with no sound, no fire, no smoke. And all of the trees leaned with it. They were not blasted backward. We looked the area over carefully and found no more small limbs and leaves on the ground than one would find under any grove of trees.

The word that kept coming to me was that the object was impelled, rather than propelled. It was drawn, rather than pushed. If there would have been any force pushing it, it certainly would have blasted limbs and leaves off the trees.

We drove out in the desert and stayed with the object for probably an hour and a half, directly underneath it. When we first stopped the car, some substance that looked like whipped cream or heavy fog rolled out of the openings in its sides. It was probably not over 300 feet above the ground, but it was completely hidden from view after it produced its own "cloud" of this substance.

We knew it was there, though, so we drove back a distance so that we could c1early see it sitting on top of its artificial cloud.

What we were observing, I believe, was a phenomenon going on inside the object. I believe that the thing was breathing, and I see no reason to change my thought on that matter.

My wife and I both had the feeling that we were witnessing the ultimate in creation. The closer we came to the object, the more we were suffused with a feeling of reverence and beauty and humbleness.

I'll tell about another object we witnessed, and I will illustrate why I know there were no occupants inside it. This sighting occurred outside of Seligman, Arizona. We watched the object coming, then observed it change its course to come to hover not more than fifteen feet above our Volkswagen. It seemed to me that it was just looking at us, as if it were studying our little car.

I jumped out with my Hasselblad camera and swung it up to take a picture. But before I could even touch the shutter, the UFO zipped right toward a little butte.

I had a terrible, sick feeling that anything so beautiful was going to crash and be destroyed. Instead of crashing, though, just before it touched the butte it shot straight up. It didn't stop; it just changed direction--a right angle, straight up--and disappeared.

No crew could have been in any craft and survived such a maneuver.

They would have been mashed against the sides of the vehicle, then pulled apart by the acceleration straight up.

I do not believe that we observed a craft made by beings from some other planet. I believe that we were watching a living creature, a form of life that moves into our dimension.

Different people throughout the years have said to me, "Fay, you know a lot more than you are telling. Come on now, tell us the truth. Admit that you made contact with the aliens inside the object. At least tell us they contacted you."

But Brad, we were not contacted; and there were no occupants inside the object. We only had the most wonderful feeling of peace and harmony, and the knowledge that we were witnessing the beauty of the ultimate of creation.

I firmly believe that UFOs are a form of life that come not from another planet but from another dimension. I believe that they are probably all around us all the time--just outside of our own dimension.

When I discussed the matter of living UFOs with another old friend, Trevor James Constable, he said that biological life in the upper octave of terrestrial existence has been overlooked by too many UFO investigators who early on were in favor of the foregone conclusion that UFOs were vehicles from outer space.

T.J. handed me a stack of photos of UFOs that he had taken with a Leica G IR 135 infrared film at f-3.5, 1/30.

"These are plainly biological forms," he said. "These are plasmic living organisms native to our atmosphere. As they appear in these photographs, they give one the impression of looking through the side of an aquarium."

Constable continued: "The daily etheric breathings of the Earth produce a barometric pressure wave twice daily, which formal science has never been able to explain.

There is enough energy in these barometric waves to run the world's machines--if we can but find the transducer. The torque drive of the Earth itself is an inexhaustible, life-positive energy source of staggering magnitude. That's what civilization depends on--making material substance spin. We see the discs in our skies manifesting these spinning motions over and over again, pressed down upon us in such profusion that one wonders how there can be any vestige of skepticism remaining. Wilhelm Reich has already shown that motors can be run directly from the cosmic life energy, or orgone, as he discovered and refined that energy.

"The characteristic of this coming epoch--heralded by UFOs--is that free primary energy will run the world. No one can put etheric force into a wire and sell it. No sheik can say that tomorrow etheric force is going to cost four times what it does today. No one can confine it within storage tanks and demand money for it. Everyone is going to have energy to do the world's work without pollution and without financial price.

"Before long, someone will uncover that all-important step (discovered by Wilhelm Reich but not disclosed by him) by which etheric force can be transduced into existing electric motors or simple adaptations of them. Orgone and magnetism are cheek by jowl. The UFO evidence screams this at the world. The era of free primary energy is imminent, and its imminence is reinforced by the absolute necessity for its appearance. The UFO shows the feasibility and potential of etheric force in technological use. With etheric force comes not just a new technical epoch, but a cultural and educational change forced by the need to understand etheric energies as we now understand other energy forms.

"The price for this new technical epoch is a forced overhaul of our whole mode of existence. We will see the beginning of a reunion between science and religion as the cosmic energies--pervaded with life and themselves the milieu of living beings--come into technical utility. Man will find the central parts of his own physical existence inseparably bound up with etheric energies, and he will be opened to a widened understanding of himself and the cosmos that produced him. The ultimate consequence will be a new humanity."

England UFO Sightings

1290-??-??; Yorkshire, UK An ancient manuscript found in Byland Abbey and belonging to the ancestors of Henry, the Abbott, reads, "There was a great portent outside. A large round silver thing like a disc flew slowly over them and excited the greatest terror." People, partaking in the feast commemorating the Saints of Simon and Jude, rushed out into the night to witness this mysterious phenomenon. Monks at Byland Abbey observed a slow saucer shaped object fly over their compound in the night sky.

8-18-1783; London, England

"Northeast of the Terrace, in clear sky and warm weather, I saw appear suddenly an oblong cloud nearly parallel to the horizon. Below the cloud was seen a luminous body, brightly lit up and almost stationary... This strange ball at first appeared bluish and faint, but its light increased, and it soon began to move. At first, it ascended above the horizon, obliquely toward the east. Then it changed its direction and moved parallel to the horizon. It vanished in the southeast. I saw it for half a minute, and the light it gave out was prodigious. It lit up every object on the face of the country. It changed shape to oblong, acquired a tail, and seemed to split up into two bodies of small size. About two minutes later came a rumble like an explosion," wrote Tiberius Cavallo, Fellow of the Royal Society, in his memoirs.

1783-08-30; Greenwich, UK Farmers watched in amazement as a brightly lit, strange object hovered in the night sky. They were even more amazed when the object seemed to release many smaller luminous craft which floated around the larger craft. After a time, all seemed to disappear in an instant.

8-10-1809; Hatton Garden, London, UK

UK, London, Hatton Garden, 08/10/1809, "I saw many meteors moving around the edge of a black cloud from which lightning flashed. They were like dazzling specks of light, dancing and traipsing through' the clouds. One increased size till it became of the brilliancy and magnitude of Venus, on a clear evening. But I could see no body in the light. It moved with great rapidity, and coasted the edge of the cloud. Then it became stationary, dimmed its splendor, and vanished. I saw these strange lights for minutes, not seconds. For at least an hour, these lights, so strange, and in innumerable points, played in and out of this black cloud. No lightning came from the clouds where these lights were playing," wrote Astronomer John Staveley in the "Journal of Natural History and Philosophy and Chemistry."

1845-??-??; London, UK Several Londoners, walking back to their flats after a night at the theatre, watch the flight of a glowing red craft as it climbed into a bank of clouds.

1864; UK

A large, cigar shaped object overflies the south of England, and is observed by the farming communities located there.

1868-06-08; Oxford, UK

Astronomers at Radcliffe Observatory at Oxford noticed that Venus had a large red spot floating above the misty atmosphere of the planet. Upon further investigation, the spot was in fact in the atmosphere of Earth. The UFO changed course several times, heading west, north, then south. After four minutes, the astronomers lost sight of the object.

1877-10-??; Wales, UK Formations of UFOs were observed flying over the Welsh coast for as much as a week. Eight craft would appear and fly in a triangle configuration almost as if on a reconnaissance mission.

1895-??-??; UK Country folk in the green hills of England found themselves transfixed by a luminous, star-like object that rose over a forest and moved off to the east at high speed.

1895-08-31; Oxford, UK Students at a men's college watched as a metallic disc rose above the trees lining the campus. After a few seconds of stable hovering, the disc shot off at incredible speed towards the east.

1905-03-29; Cardif, UK A large cylindrical object floated over Cardiff, Wales. Witnesses described the object "like a hot, red-orange iron rod."

1907-??-??; UK Mr. David Packer observed a strange luminous body in the daylight sky and managed to get a photograph of it.

1909-??-??; Caerphilly, UK Leaving a depression in the ground where the craft had lain, a torpedo shaped UFO crossed over the road and shot up into the sky at the approach of a curious Cardiff man. The man claimed to have seen two "peculiar-looking" men on the inside wearing fur coats. As soon as they noticed him, they activated their craft and were gone.

1909-05-09; Sanford, UK The people of Sanford watched the curious luminous ball hover over their town. Just minutes earlier, a similar object had been reported in Southend.

1909-05-09; Southend, UK The "Weekly Dispatch," of London, reported that the people of Southend had seen a luminous object cross the night sky. About 20 minutes after the object disappeared, a similar light was seen flying over Sanford.

1909-05-18; Caerphilly, UK Mr. Lethbridge stumbled across two men wearing fur coats and speaking in a strange accent. Parked near the road where he took his customary evening walk was a strange metallic cylinder. Once the two men noticed him, they climbed into the cylinder and took off into the night sky,

1913-01-04; Dover, UK Fishermen noticed a large luminous flying craft fly out from the mainland towards the Atlantic.

1913-01-17; Cardiff, UK Chief constable for the town of Cardiff, Captain Lindsay, and a friend were witness to a large, fast moving airship that left black clouds of smoke behind as it went forward.

1914-??-??; UK A small lens shaped flying object was photographed moving in front of an old style building at about mailbox level. This picture came from an old family photograph album listed no details.

Strange Nights in the North

Date: 21st August 1994 Place: Bellingham, Northumberland

Peter Nelson had retired to bed on Sunday, 21st August, when his alarm system went off. It was 11.35.pm and Peter got out of bed and checked the house and garden. There appeared to be no problem with intruders, and when checking the garden he looked up at the night sky and noticed a bright object travelling in an easterly direction and moving quite slowly. He went into the rear garden to have a closer look as it came over the Tyne Valley, and could see a glowing outline of what he described as a coppery dome shape. It moved slowly along the valley towards the river Tyne, then changed direction and headed North.

Peter describes his sighting in the following way.

'I could hardly believe what I was looking at. As it came closer I could feel the air pulsating and was aware of ozone in the air. The hairs on my arms started to bristle. As I watched the object I remembered there was some film left in my camera, so I went into the house to get the camera and shouted for my daughter Mary-Anne to come and see the object. I took five photographs of it. The bright light on the bottom of the disc slowly got brighter and it accelerated at great speed to the north.'

Peter's observation time was approximately twelve minutes and he describes the object as being larger than the full moon. He heard no sound, and states that it was a clear, dry and mild night with no cloud cover. This object was also observed by five other people west of Ovington at about ll.30 pm on the same night.

The Hexam Courant and Evening Chronicle carried articles about this sighting and Phil Mantle called me to tell me that photographs had been taken by Peter Nelson. I contacted Peter and he very kindly came to see me bringing the negatives with him and the camera he had used. He left the negatives with me for examination. The photograph of the UFO shows a coppery dome shaped object with a light emanating from underneath, and the moon clearly visible. The object seen by the other witnesses is described by them as an orangey yellow colour in two parts hovering above the trees, a few miles west of Ovington. This sighting was at 11.30pm, and several of the witnesses said they had never seen anything like it before.

Visit from the Military

Peter was visited in September by two military officials, who claimed to be from RAF Prestwick. They briefly showed Peter some identification and asked many questions pertaining to the object he observed. They also asked for the negatives. However, I had the negatives at that time and so Peter gave them a copy of the photograph of the UFO. They were interested to know about the sound, movement and height of the object and the approximate distance from which Peter had observed it. The men spent over an hour with him and then went down to the golf course nearby, where they used binoculars and appeared to be looking around. Peter has since told me that both he and his daughter felt that their conversation was being taped.

Otterburn Army Range is in close proximity to Peter's home and he and his daughter are used to seeing military activity around the area on a regular basis. Apparently there is going to be a large military base there in the future and there has been a great deal of objection to this from residents in the area.

This photograph will be forwarded to a photographic analysis consultant and I will give you an update on this when I receive his evaluation.

SHEFFIELD UFO CASE CAUSES A FUROR IN BRITAIN

The March 24, 1997 UFO incident in the Peak District west of Sheffield is now the subject of an investigation by the newspaper Sheffield Star, the British UFO Research Association (BUFORA) and the Hon. Helen Jackson, Member of Parliament for Sheffield/Hillsborough. In early April, the Sheffield Star revealed that the RAF had conducted a low-altitude training exercise that night and had participated in a massive air-and-ground search for a purported missing aircraft. Shortly thereafter, Mrs. Jackson submitted a list of questions about the Sheffield case to the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD).

On April 7, 1998, John Spellar, Under-Secretary of Defense sent Mrs. Jackson this response: "It is not possible 12 months after the date in question to state precisely where military activities were being carried out. Records kept show only that aircraft were tasked to carry out low flying over the Peak District between 2030 and 2107 (8:30 to 9:07 p.m.) local time on the evening of 24 March 1997. No low-level flying is permitted over the Sheffield urban area or any other major conurbation."

The night of March 24, 1997, instruments at the University of Edinburgh recorded two mysterious sonic booms in the Sheffield area. Eyewitnesses on the ground reported seeing a triangular UFO and up to six RAF Tornado fighters flying overhead. According to the May/June 1997 issue of UFO Magazine (page 9), the witnesses described the object as "a huge triangular-shaped UFO (that) passed directly overhead at 300 feet at 9:30 p.m. The craft had pinkish-colored lights around its curved edges and a blinking blue light on its underside and 'lit up the street as bright as day.'"

Since March 24, 1997, rumors of a UFO air battle and a Tornado crash have circulated in Derbyshire and South Yorkshire. According to the story, the triangular UFO appeared over Dronfield, Derbyshire. Six RAF Tornado interceptors engaged in an air attack on the craft. The UFO supposedly shot down a Tornado, which crashed in a reservoir near the Howden Moors in Derbyshire. The UFO then fled into space. Following the exchange of letters between Under-Secretary Spellar and Mrs. Jackson, BUFORA press officer Dave Clarke inteviewed Alan Pattison of MoD's "UFO desk" and his deputy, Squadron Leader Tom Manning of the RAF. According to Clarke, the men "confirmed the planes involved in the incident were two Tornado GR1 Strike aircraft which were operating from the base at RAF Marham on a pre-booked and pre-planned low-level training exercise over the Peak District. These Tornados were the type used on bombing missions in the (Persian) Gulf War and are not fighters that would be scrambled for an intercept."

"They also admitted that other Tornados and indeed Jaguar fighters from other NATO bases took part in the night-time sortie, which included night-time flying at a minimum 250 feet altitude over the mountains west of Sheffield." UFO researcher Max Burns has claimed that the triangular mystery object was tracked on radar at 9:55 p.m. that night by the Royal Signals unit at the RAF Linton-upon-Ouse base, near the city of York. Clarke stated, "The MoD/RAF current position is that the two sonic booms recorded at 2132 and 2206 (9:32 and 10:06 p.m. by Edinburgh) that night remain 'unexplained.' They claim the low-flying exercise was over fifty minutes before these sonic events were recorded and say that they have no record of them at the time of the exercise."

Pattison and Manning stated, "We did not chase a UFO, and there has been no cover-up. We responded to a request by the police to help to search for a crashed aircraft and sent a helicopter from RAF Leconfield. We don't know what caused the sonic events, and the whole thing is a mystery to us, too." Clarke revealed that the air-and-ground search involved 200 police, fire and military reserve personnel, who covered an area of 40 square miles around Bolsterstone, South Yorkshire. The helicopter from RAF Leconfield was a Westland Sea King HAS Mk 6, which assisted the West Yorkshire police helicopter in the search. (See the Sheffield Star for April 4, 1998. SW Object Explosion Witnesses Own Personal Statement Mr Andi Lloyd (Coastguard Officer)

At 1845 UTC Sunday15th march 1998 at Brixham in county of Devon. (Lat/Long 5033.8n 00330.6w) I witnessed the following.

Upon leaving Brixham Coastguard station with my colleague, Mr Reg Hill I observed a Bright white light travelling across the sky above my place of duty. The light was heading in a south east to Northwest direction at about 1000-1200 feet. It was large and very bright and lasted for 1-2 seconds. There was a flash of extremely bright light and simultaneously crackling / exploding sound was heard. The light then disappeared.

Looking at the sky afterwards I saw a mass of white very dense vapour in the area the object was last seen. The vapour looked like a comma in the sky 1000 feet above sea level. The semi-circular vapour Pattern was about 30ft high and 10ft across. There was no vapour trail in the direction from which the object came.

The weather conditions observed by the coastguard Met-reporting officers at the time of the incident were.. The wind was from 350 degrees at 10 knots Cloud cover was negligible with 1/8 cover of cirrus type clouds at 20000ft the visibility was good, in excess of 10 miles and the weather was fair. I can offer no explanation of what I saw last night.

UFO TRAILS JETLINER OVER PENZANCE, CORNWALL

On Tuesday, June 30, 1998, David A. Dunworth, his wife and a friend were near Mounts Bay, in Penzance, Cornwall, UK when they sighted an unusual object in "the clear blue sky" at 9:10 a.m.

"Myself, my wife and a friend of ours witnessed a small circular white object trailing a jet. The object was about the size of an O on our keyboard and appeared to be circling an aircraft on route to London or Europe," i.e. heading east.

"The O-shaped object was bright white in colour and moved in the same direction as the jet (easterly) about one inch in an arc above the tail of the jet. We all watched as the object slowly circled the jet above the fuselage. The jet continued, probably unaware of their companion circling above them. As we watched, the object began to fade in colour and eventually disappeared all together, as if it had somehow disintegrated."

Penzance is located about 180 miles (288 kilometers) southwest of London. (Many thanks to Steve Wilson Sr. for this news story.)

LIGHT PHENOMENON SEEN BY HUNDREDS IN UK

An unusual light phenomenon, which resembled a giant letter Z, was seen on both sides of the Irish Sea after 10:30 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 1998.

According to the BBC report, "A large meteorite is being blamed for hundreds of sightings along the west coast of Britain Friday evening. Initially authorities were baffled about the source of the lights, which looked like the letter Z or the number 2."

"Throughout Friday evening, police and coastguards from Cornwall to Scotland were inundated with calls from people who spotted the light, though most came from people living around the Irish Sea."

"Coastguards in Belfast said that they had received dozens of 999 calls and admitted they had seen the light in the sky...over the north coast of Ireland. A spokesman said the light had a large Z shape."

"'It was very prominent and was due north of the (Belfast) coastguard station. We were able to watch it from the window. I can say that I've never seen anything like this before.'"

"'It was a larger shape than the moon but, as we were unable to measure the distance, it was impossible to judge its actual size.'" (Editor's Note: It was a full moon Friday night.)

The Z-shaped light "appeared to be moving very slowly westwards. 'When we first saw this object, it was not completely dark (yet). It was higher than the clouds and occasionally it was obscured by passing clouds.'"

"Another report was received by Teesside Air Traffic Control near Middlesbrough, who reported seeing an object resembling the letter Q in the sky west of their position."

"In a statement, the (UK) Department of Transport said, 'The sightings were as far apart as Cornwall and the Clyde (in Scotland), west of Belfast (Northern Ireland) and east to Leeds. RAF Fylingdales early warning station reported no undue activity, as did Jodrell Bank. We can only summarise it is space debris or a comet.'"

On Saturday, July 11, "an airline pilot who landed at East Midlands Airport" provided "an explanation."

"The pilot reported seeing a large meteorite entering the atmosphere as he was flying from the UK to France. He claimed to have noticed it breaking up and leaving a long trail in its wake, which was forced by winds into shapes resembling the letters." (Many thanks to John Hayes for the BBC report.)

(Editor's Comment: Excuse me, but luminous meteor trails last between five and ten seconds--twenty seconds tops. They do not persist in the sky for over an hour. Whatever this phenomenon was, it was no meteor.)

THE KALAHARI U.F.O. CRASH

A report of my own on a well documented crash in the Kalahari....

Mystery and subterfuge shroud 'The Kalahari UFO Crash'.

The incident has been reported in daily newspapers and UFO magazines alike. Some sources date the crash as 7th May 1989, others sources quote the same date for 1988. The UFO was allegedly shot down by a South African Air Force Mirage jet and crashed near the border between Botswana and South Africa.

Quest International, a well known UK magazine printed a Special Edition devoted to the subject in May/June 1993. According to their reporter a joint S.A.A.F.-U.S.A.F called OPERATION SILVER DIAMOND was mounted to recover the occupants and debris. A former Lieutenant-Colonel of the U.S.A.F. is quoted as saying..."My contacts in naval intelligence have informed me that we [The United States] have given the South Africans advanced technology in exchange for a U.F.O.".

Among the threads of evidence is a printed photocopy of a faxed response to a query from Wright-Patterson Airforce Base which refers to a satellite re-entry on 7 th May 1988 and a confirmation of a 'fireball or satellite re-entry' in the same area on 7th May 1988. A researcher at Quest claims to have phoned N.O.R.A.D. and asked the duty officer to provide any information relating to this date and location. The officer allegedly replied that 'an unknown object was tracked on entering the region'. The magazine goes on to state that ..."two totally independent researchers made their way to South Africa to conduct their own enquiries into the case". Each reported that a crash landing of some kind had taken place in the Kalahari Desert. The one report was from Dr. J.J. Hurtak, an American ufologist and Professor of Science, the other was from J. Von Buttlara, a German researcher. Both were able to confirm Military sightings of an 'object' over South African airspace. There are also reports of a nameless researcher who travelled into the Kalahari region where he spoke at length with local tribesman who confirmed having seen strange aerial objects in the area.

A report during 1993 in 'The Argus', a Cape Town daily newspaper, told of claims of an international 'cover-up' and 'disinformation exercise' that is blocking attempts by researchers to uncover the 'truth'. It also named Botswana's Environment Minister, Dithoko Seiso, as confirming the incident.

Cynthia Hind of Zimbabwe, a world famous UFO researcher and author of a book on UFO's in Southern Africa subsequently wrote an article that was published in the 'UFO Times'. It was titled;

"Anatomy of a hoax. The UFO crash on the South African/Botswana border".

This article exposes one, James Van Greunen, as the originator of an extremely elaborate hoax. She points out inconsistencies and discrepancies in the alleged documents as proof. Amongst these are 14 spelling mistakes in what claimed to be an official document. When Van Greunen was confronted he admitted he had faked some details but still insisted it was a true story about a downed object on the border repeated to him in confidence by a friend of his, Hendrik Greef, a pilot in the S.A.A.F, who had overheard it at an officers mess.

From all this it is clear to see that case has been fraught with controversy and bizarre reports continue to add to the confusion. There have recently been claims that a French Intelligence officer was murdered whilst investigating the case.

Additionally, when the author attempted to track the sources of the above newspaper article he was told by the librarian at the Argus. "The file has been 'borrowed' and is now 'missing'"

Pennsylvania UFO Wave, 2008

There appears to be an ongoing series of UFO sightings, or wave, in the state of Pennsylvania. I have been in contact with one of MUFON's Field Investigators, Bob Gardner, about these sightings, and Bob is currently at work investigating these reports. Here is a brief history of what has been going on there.

The Bucks County Courier Times reported that MUFON was indeed going to send researchers into the Lower Bucks area following four separate reports of anomalous objects in the area. Earlier this year, on January 27, Falls police officer Jeffrey Omlor was sent to Don Pablo's on Route 1 in response to a 911 call about a strange craft that "hovered like an octopus." By the time the policeman arrived, the object was gone.

Also on that day, MUFON received a report from a pizza deliveryman, who described seeing an object over a line of trees in Vermillion Hills. The UFO was reported as "blinking red, white, and green lights.

On April 25, a report was made of an “orange fire ball that seemed to be crashing out of the sky.” This object was reported from Newtown.

I received an email from an about.com reader whose mother had taken a photograph of an unknown object on June 16, in Richland, in Lebanon County. She was taking photographs of a thunderstorm at the time, from her residence on Millardsville Road between 4:00-5:00 PM. Her photograph, shown along with this article, shows an object that is difficult to explain. I have had several photo buffs take a look at it, and gotten varied opinions. The object has been identified as a bird, debris from the wind, and an unknown craft. I forwarded it to Bob Gardner, who has added it to his case files.

A report was also received about an incident that occurred on 06-03-08 at 4:20 AM. The witness was laying awake, looking outside through a large bedroom window, which gave a full view of the area on one side of the house. The sky was clear, except for what he perceived as one small cloud in the distance. This small cloud began to move toward the house at a slow rate of speed. It soon became close enough that the witness could make out a definite shape-like an elongated hexagon, which was a dark gray in color. The object now looked immense.

He estimated the UFO's size at about 100 feet long and 100 wide. Two of its sides were longer. He got out of bed, and went to the window. The object was now close enough, that he could only see the bottom of it. Although he estimated the object at about 400-500 feet away from the back of his property, he could hear no sound. Suddenly, the object began to move. It made a fluid right hand turn toward the west, giving the witness a view of more of its structure.

Above the bottom, there was a rectangular light panel or window on each side-he could only see three of its four sides, however. The large UFO soon moved away. The witness estimated that he saw it for about one minute, though it seemed like an eternity to him.

"I can't be seeing this, its not really happening!" he thought.

Earlier this month, a report was received regarding a craft with “six lights in the shape of a boomerang." The unknown object was seen hovering over the Oxford Valley Mall in Middletown.

On July 8, a man who was out in the yard with his dog at 4:10 AM, made a very strange report. He looked up into the sky and spotted four unusual lights. Three of them appeared as two eyes with a nose. They had bright lights, and it seemed that the front part of the object was a pink color. The back of the UFO seemed to have a bluish, foggy appearance to it. The witness watched the object for a remarkable 40 minutes, as it moved so ever slowly across the blackened skies. At one point, he felt that he saw silvery flakes falling on the trees. In time, the flakes looked like they went back up into the object. The witness attempted to take photographs of the UFO, but all that showed on the film was darkness.

Also on July 8, a report was received from a man who was locking up his truck on his driveway, happened to look up into the sky, and saw two yellow-orange objects, one much larger than the other. The objects sat motionless for about 10 minutes, then suddenly, they shot upward, and disappeared, leaving a boomerang-shaped trail. The witness sat for ten minutes, almost in a state of shock. Field Investigator Elise Simon was unsure exactly when a report on the sightings would be made, and MUFON's State Director of Pennsylvania, John Ventre, made this statement to the press:

“We'll be talking to the local police, the FAA and the local media and any witnesses.” He also pointed out that in his estimation, about 93% of UFO reports are eventually identified as conventional flying objects, but "...that 7 percent, though, that's the great part, because it really defies explanation.”

As investigators reveal more details of the sightings over Pennsylvania, I will add them to my report.

Dozens in Texas town report seeing UFO

STEPHENVILLE, Texas—In this farming community where nightfall usually brings clear, starry skies, residents are abuzz over reported sightings of what many believe is a UFO.

more stories like thisSeveral dozen people -- including a pilot, county constable and business owners -- insist they have seen a large silent object with bright lights flying low and fast. Some reported seeing fighter jets chasing it.

"People wonder what in the world it is because this is the Bible Belt, and everyone is afraid it's the end of times," said Steve Allen, a freight company owner and pilot who said the object he saw last week was a mile long and half a mile wide. "It was positively, absolutely nothing from these parts."

While federal officials insist there's a logical explanation, locals swear that it was larger, quieter, faster and lower to the ground than an airplane. They also said the object's lights changed configuration, unlike those of a plane. People in several towns who reported seeing it over several weeks have offered similar descriptions of the object.

Machinist Ricky Sorrells said friends made fun of him when he told them he saw a flat, metallic object hovering about 300 feet over a pasture behind his Dublin home. But he decided to come forward after reading similar accounts in the Stephenville Empire-Tribune.

"You hear about big bass or big buck in the area, but this is a different deal," Sorrells said. "It feels good to hear that other people saw something, because that means I'm not crazy."

Sorrells said he has seen the object several times. He said he watched it through his rifle's telescopic lens and described it as very large and without seams, nuts or bolts.

Maj. Karl Lewis, a spokesman for the 301st Fighter Wing at the Joint Reserve Base Naval Air Station in Fort Worth, said no F-16s or other aircraft from his base were in the area the night of Jan. 8, when most people reported the sighting.

Lewis said the object may have been an illusion caused by two commercial airplanes. Lights from the aircraft would seem unusually bright and may appear orange from the setting sun.

"I'm 90 percent sure this was an airliner," Lewis said. "With the sun's angle, it can play tricks on you."

Officials at the region's two Air Force bases -- Dyess in Abilene and Sheppard in Wichita Falls -- also said none of their aircraft were in the area last week. The Air Force no longer investigates UFOs.

One man has offered a reward for a photograph or videotape of the mysterious object.

About 200 UFO sightings are reported each month, mostly in California, Colorado and Texas, according to the Mutual UFO Network, which plans to go to the 17,000-resident town of Stephenville to investigate.

Fourteen percent of Americans polled last year by The Associated Press and Ipsos say they have seen a UFO.

Erath County Constable Lee Roy Gaitan said that he first saw red glowing lights and then white flashing lights moving fast, but that even with binoculars could not see the object to which the lights were attached.

"I didn't see a flying saucer and I don't know what it was, but it wasn't an airplane, and I've never seen anything like it," Gaitan said. "I think it must be some kind of military craft -- at least I hope it was."

UFO 'dive-bombs' couple

AN ELDERLY couple claim they had a close encounter with a UFO while travelling along a Territory highway.

Lawrie Fuchs, 70, and his wife Gwen, 69, were returning to their home town of Elliott following a trip to Queensland last Friday when they say the UFO swooped them as they drove along the Barkly Highway.

Estimated to be about six metres wide, they say the object passed the vehicle with such speed that its slipstream forced their Mazda sedan into the middle of the road.

They were travelling in a westerly direction and were about 55km east of the Threeways roadhouse when the incident occurred.

Elliott couple Gwen and Lawrie Fuchs were swooped by a UFO as they travelled along the Barkly Highway last Friday.

"It was about 4pm when suddenly we saw a dark, silvery flash and heard a loud sound as it passed,'' Mr Fuchs said.

"It was travelling at a terrific speed, very bloody fast, and there was no warning at all.

"I'm sure it dive-bombed us but I can't imagine why.''

"I do a lot of bush work and over the years I've seen a number of strange, unexplained things,'' he said.

Mrs Fuchs said she saw a little flash just below the sun visor then heard a loud whoosh as it passed over.

"I actually thought it hit the car, but there were no marks,'' she said.

Mr Fuchs, a mechanic who has lived in Elliot for 40 years, says he took the incident in his stride.

"I don't talk about it much because sometimes people don't take you seriously.''

Last week, another man reported seeing a UFO near Tennant Creek. Alan Martin, who is deaf, was obviously shaken by his experience. The Aboriginal man in his 40s had bought alcohol and headed alone into scrub land to avoid being humbugged.

He described seeing a disc-shaped object at close range. His drawing indicated it had red, green and blue lights.

U.S. pilot was ordered to shoot down UFO

LONDON - An American fighter pilot flying from an English air base at the height of the Cold War was ordered to open fire on a massive UFO that lit up his radar, according to an account published by Britain’s National Archives on Monday.

The fighter pilot said he was ordered to fire a full salvo of rockets at the UFO moving erratically over the North Sea — but that at the last minute the object picked up enormous speed and disappeared. The account, first published in Britain’s Daily Star newspaper more than 17 years ago and to this day unverified by military authorities, was one of many carried in the 1,500 pages the archives made available online.

The unnamed pilot said he and another airman were scrambled on the night of May 20, 1957, to intercept an unusual “bogey” on radars at a Royal Air Force Station Manston, an airfield at the southeastern tip of England about 75 miles from central London.

“This was a flying object with very unusual flight patterns,” the pilot said, according to a typed manuscript of his account mailed to Britain’s Ministry of Defense by a UFO enthusiast in 1988. “In the initial briefing it was suggested to us that the bogey actually was motionless for long intervals.”

Ordered to fly at full throttle in cloudy weather, the pilot said he was given the order to fire a volley of 24 rockets at the mysterious object.

“To be quite candid I almost [expletive] my pants!” the pilot said, saying he asked for confirmation — which he received.

Retired U.S. airman Milton Torres told Britain’s Sky News on Monday that he was the pilot and has spent 50 frustrating years attempting to uncover the truth of his aerial encounter.

Speaking from his home in Miami, Torres said he never saw the UFO with his naked eyes, but watched in awe as it appeared on his jet’s radar and sped off before he had chance to fire.

“All of a sudden as it was coming in, it decided to take off and leave me behind ... The next thing I know it was gone,” Torres told Sky News. “It was some kind of space alien craft. It was so fast, it was so incredible ... it was absolutely death-defying.”

Impossible to miss?
In the newly published government file, the U.S. airman said the UFO appeared impossible to miss.

“The blip was burning a hole in the radar with its incredible intensity,” the pilot said. “It was similar to a blip I had received from B-52’s and seemed to be a magnet of light. ... I had a lock on that had the proportions of a flying aircraft carrier.”

As he closed in on the object to prepare for combat, however, the object began to move wildly before fading off his radar. The target gone, the mission was called off, and he returned to base to an odd reception.

“I had not the foggiest idea what had actually occurred, nor would anyone explain anything to me,” the pilot said. He said he was led to a man in civilian clothes, who “advised me that this would be considered highly classified and that I should not discuss it with anybody not even my commander.”

“He disappeared without so much as a goodbye and that was that, as far as I was concerned,” the pilot said, according to the account.

No military record
Britain’s military said it had no record of the incident, according to the files. Neither did the U.S. military. The second pilot’s account, also included in the files, paints a somewhat different picture of events, saying there were not one but several “unknowns” and that he did not remember being contacted by anyone about staying quiet. He did not mention the targets’ size.

“I know this is not a very exciting narrative but it is all I can recall,” the second pilot said.
His name, like his colleague’s, was redacted from the files.

David Clarke, a UFO expert who has worked with the National Archives on the document release, said it was one of the most intriguing stories he had culled from the batch of files released Monday.

He said that the CIA once had a program intended to create phantom signals on radar — and that this may have been an exercise in electronic warfare. Whatever the case, Clarke argued that “there’s no doubt something very unusual happened.”

Clarke said the batch of files released Monday — which include witness accounts, investigations, and sketches — was part of a three- to four-year program intended to make a total of 160 UFO-related files available to the public.

UFOs In The Land Of The Rising Sun

While seldom mentioned in UFO chronicles, Japan has been a major theatre of operations for the phenomenon over the past three decades, and boasts prehistoric lore that links it closely to the possible presence of ancient astronauts.

The most significant postwar sighting turned out to be singularly dramatic: a luminous object, dangling in the air from an enormous, darkened craft, was witnessed by many observers over Tokyo Bay in the summer of 1952. The objects were also picked up by radar, prompting jet fighters to scramble to intercept. The huge aerial contraption proceeded to elude the military aircraft with maneuvers never thought possible before. In the early days of the Cold War, with the Korean conflict still brewing on the other side of the Sea of Japan, the thought of a surprise attack by unknown Soviet technology was fresh in every strategist' mind.

But it wasn't until 22 years later, in June 1974, that an interceptor--an F4 Phantom--would lock on to its mysterious quarry and experience the nearest of close encounters: a head-on collision with a UFO.

Originally under the impression that the signal on the screen was a notoriously errant Soviet Bear bomber, the fighter's crew was surprised to see that their target was a 40-foot wide disc with square portholes that could have been viewports or exhausts. When the Phantom trained its weapons on the object, the intruder hurtled toward it, smashing the fighter's nose and causing the pilot and weapons officer to eject. The latter died in the collision, and the Japanese government remained silent about the event, never acknowledging if the UFO had fallen to the ground during the "accident". The Phantom's loss was tersely attributed to "a collision with an unknown object at 30,000 feet."

The Japanese Air Force's tight-lipped silence was triggered, perhaps by the number of sightings that had already been reported by civillians. Four months prior to the Phantom incident, a young woman, Akiko Nakayama, had come into contact with three strange creatures in a rice paddy in the village of Hoshimachi. The alien trio re-entered a glowing orange vehicle that took to the night skies in a matter of seconds, rejoining what was a veritable armada of UFOs slowly crossing the skies over Japan. Magazines devoted to the subject of UFOs in both Japan and the U.S. made much of the fact that Ms. Nakayama's sighting had taken place not too far from the site of the unique, mysterious prehistoric statue of the Inu-Ningen, the "man-dog" that has been taken by many to be a depiction of a prehistoric, nonhuman visitor to our world. This large, perplexing statue, along with the small Dogu statues (helmeted figures that suggest respirators and air hoses) have defied all rational explanation.

In February 1975, near the town of Kofu, two boys walked around a grounded UFO which bore distinctive "oriental characters" on its hull (reminiscent, perhaps, of the Oriental script on the object recovered in Kecksburg, PA in 1965). The youngsters reported seeing "a ladder emerge from the craft" and a Klaatu-esque, silver-clad entity descend toward them. In what can best be described as a case of "unrequited contact", the boys broke and ran from the spot in abject terror. One of the children's parents was later able to confirm having seen an unusual craft rising skywards from the direction in which the boys had run.But by September of that very same year, UFOs would be seen by everyone living in western Japan, prompting a deluge of phone calls to the authorities. A Japan Air Lines DC-8 was "tailed" by an unknown device for twenty minutes until it landed safely at a local airport.

The sightings were building up to a climax: in 1976, fifty witnesses beheld a golden UFO in the early morning hours of October 17th. The scintillating disk remained suspended in mid-air for ten minutes, prompting the air traffic controllers at Akita Airport to warn all approaching planes of the potential obstacle. The crowd of witnesses included members of the Japanese media, who had been filming a documentary on pilot instruction at the airport. Earlier in the year, a dark UFO had hovered directly over the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, its maneuvers witnessed by agents of the National Police from their office building.

The increasing frequency of the sightings became such that in 1977, the country's first official investigation of the phenomenon was launched under the auspices of the Japanese Air Force, with inconclusive results.

The phenomenon did not wait around for the government findings either: strange globes of light were seen flying around Mount Senohara in 1982, and two years later, the crew of a passenger jet reported seeing what first appeared to be the mushroom cloud following a nuclear detonation, rising to a height of sixty thousand feet and expanding to a diameter of a hundred miles before dissolving altogether. No explanation was offered for this event.

UFOs are not the only enigma bewildering the Japanese. In the summer of 1986, a circular, levelled "crop circle" was discovered in Yamagata, constituting the first instance of this mystery's appearance in Japan.

Like the United States, Japan has either the fortune or ill luck of being located next to one of the dozen or so anomalous areas that surround the planet. The Devil's Triangle, the Pacific Ocean's equivalent of the Bermuda Triangle, which extends from the Japanese archipelago to the Marianas, covering an area of tremendously deep marine trenches and underwater volcanoes. Aside from the legendary number of disappearances recorded as having taken place in or near the site, frequent UFO sightings have also been reported, suggesting the possibility of a natural aberration that serves as a materialization spot for the phenomenon.

The crew of the Kitsukawa Maru reported, in April 1952, an encounter with a pair of wingless, silver disks that plunged into the ocean off the port bow. The ship's captain promptly noted the event, which occured at the edge of the nineteen thousand foot deep trench surrounding Japan. In 1967, a number of U.S. fighters were sent after a formation of UFOs off Okinawa, which had been picked up on radar.

There have been indications that the Japanese government is possibly ready to re-open its investigations into the UFO enigma: at the International UFO and Space Symposium, held in Hakui City in the fall of 1991, then prime minister Toshiki Kaifu expressed an opinion that "it was time to take the UFO situation seriously." Time will tell if his suggestion will be taken with equal seriousness.

UFOs and Aliens on Earth

If you had mentioned seeing a Unidentified Flying
Object (UFO), or spaceship from another planet 100 years
ago, you would probably be thought of as a raving lunatic.
If you had mentioned one 50 years ago, the case would be
thought about, but with much suspicion. Today, many people
would believe you, and, if you had evidence to prove it, the
government would take a very close interest in your case,
yet many people would call you an idiot. Despite all the
evidence that indicates UFO's exist, there are still many
people who will not listen to any evidence, and the
government covers up evidence and alters news releases on
the subject.

The Roswell case is one of the best documented, and
most controversial UFO cases ever. In July of 1949, at a
small airforce base in Roswell, New Mexico, a small,
brightly glowing object was observed to crash land at about
11:30 P.M. There were many people who had seen the crash,
and they had described that it was "brighter, and fell much
slower than any meteors" they had ever seen. At St. Mary's
Hospital in Roswell, two Catholic nuns, saw the crash,
directly north of them, and logged the crash to have
occurred on July 4, between 10:00 and 11:30 PM.
Southwest of the base, Corporal E. L. Pyles looked
to see what at first he thought was a shooting star, only it
seemed to be to large to be one. He testifies that the
crash happened about 11:00 PM also.

There were many Military officers in the area who
had seen the object as well. The object was appearing on
military radars for many days before the crash. Before the
crash, on July 1, all of the officers and technicians at the
base had been tracking an unidentified object on their
radars. Starting on July 2nd, Steve MacKenzie, who was
stationed at Roswell, was ordered to report to the White
Sands Proving Ground radar sites and report directly to the
brigadier general at the base. The Brigadier General's
orders were to inform him of all the movements the object
made. At White Sands, there had been doubt as to whether
this object was a malfunction of radar equipment, or, if it
was in fact, real. So , the airforce had other radar sites
in Albuquerque and Roswell look at the area on their radars.
It was shown that they had, in fact, a real object.
During the evening of July 4, the object changed.
It was growing bigger, then shrinking back to it's original
size, the blip was pulsating, then the blip grew quite
large, and disappeared from the screen. Because sites in
Albuquerque, White Sands and Roswell were tracking the
object, the airforce had a vague location about where it
crashed. The airforce then decided to launch a
comprehensive search the following morning.
The airforce, however, was the last to arrive at the
site. A group of archaeologists being led by Dr. W. Curry
Holden, had arrived earlier. One of the students recorded
the object as "a crashed wingless plane, with a flat
fuselage." The archaeologists then left to inform local
authorities of an aircraft accident.

When the airforce arrived at the Roswell crash site,
there were two other people exploring, a man named Ragsdale
and a woman named Truelove. They had been collecting pieces
of metal from the site, tossing it into their jeep . But,
what they saw after that was much more significant. There
were bodies, lying about. There were several of them, about
four or five feet long. There were five in total, obviously
not human. There were three dead bodies, one in critical
condition, and one, apparently fine. They threw the debris
clear of their jeep when the airforce started driving up,
and got out of there as fast as they could because of fear
of being arrested. When the airforce arrived, they looked
around, and they saw the large craft in the side of the
mountain, partly buried, leaning at about a 30 degree angle,
with large pieces of debris scattered about. After the
airforce had searched and photographed the area, they began
cleaning up. The bodies were loaded into ambulances after
being put into body bags. The living creature was taken
into an ambulance also. The area was cleaned over the next
few days. "And when I say "cleaned", I mean raking the area
to get all the pieces of debris and using industrial vacuum
cleaners to take care of the rest." A little later, the
airforce located a field that the UFO had apparently flown
over as it crashed. The field had strange debris scattered
all over. A man called Brazel owned the property, and, the
airforce then allegedly kidnapped him for three days. They
also rounded up the archaeologists, and later, tracked down
Ragsdale and Truelove, who drove off as the airforce
arrived, Ragsdale and Truelove and swore them to secrecy.
After they took care of all the other details, they changed
the story from "FLYING SAUCER RECOVERED IN ROSWELL!" which
was submitted by an airforce officer, not a civilian, after
the crash to, "WEATHER BALLOON CRASH IN ROSWELL!" This
story doesn't hold up well though. After all the reports
were turned in, and all the witnesses had been interviewed,
it didn't look like the airforce could support baloon story.
So, they have been changing their stories around, from a
weather balloon, to a crashed V2 rocket, to an experimental
aircraft. As recent as June of 1995, the airforce
officially announced that it was in fact a balloon lofted to
view Russian weapon test sites. But, that wouldn't explain
the bizarre debris, a foil that would re-shape itself
after being bent, and the pieces of metal that would not
melt under any temperature. Nor would it explain the Aliens
themselves. So, none of these explanations could hold
water. The only possibilities are that it was a early US
spacecraft, or, a UFO. And the UFO , for the first time
ever, is the only explanation that makes sense.
The aliens of the Roswell case are the classic
Grey's. They are short, 3.5 feet tall, slit mouth, and
large oval eyes. They are grey in color and have a very
hostile disposition towards humans. There is no known
record of what happened to the living alien. The last he
was seen, was walking under his own power into the military
hospital (Not the St. Mary's hospital). In the hospital
there are reports of some Medics from Washington preforming
an autopsy. The alien that was autopsied gave off a
tremendous stench, that caused the doctors to vacate the
room. The bodies were then loaded onto planes, and no one
knows where they went, because of the great scheme the
airforce had to hide the bodies destination. The debris
from the crash site, and the debris in the field, was also
loaded up and taken to different places around the country.
There are three main types of aliens that are said
to visit Earth. There are many other species that have been
reported, but these incidents are to sporadic and
unsupported to believe. The first type of alien are called
the Greys, short, militaristic aliens with no apparent
emotion. They can take a humans life with no apparent
regard for that individual. They are between 3.5 - 4.5 feet
tall, and are totally grey with a slit mouth and oval eyes.
They focus mainly on the study of other lifeforms, and
genetic engineering. Finally, they are a completely cloned
race, which is dying because their DNA is harmed after each
cloning. They may be creating a mix-breed of humans and
themselves in order to create a better race than both. (David House, 1)

The second type are called The Reptilians. They are
said to be the masters of the Greys. The Reptilians are
said to be travelling to Earth on an asteroid where 30
million of them survive. Though that is unbelievable, if
this was true, these aliens would arrive sometime in the
next couple years. They resemble large, erect alligators.
They should also be considered hostile, because their
technology is so advanced when compared to ours, and they
seem to consider us a lower forms of life. (David House, 2)
Finally, there are aliens which resemble a mixbreed
of humans and Greys. They are the least likely of alien
species to exist, which is unfortunate, because they are the
friendliest. They are the mix-breed of Humans and Greys
that the Greys are creating. Why they have their own
civilization would be a mystery if being a clone is true.
The creatures have our advanced senses, while they have the
Greys advanced brain. (David House, 3)

Many people have different beliefs about UFOs and
the aliens within them. Some people say, "Hey, if there ARE
other advanced civilizations out there, WHERE are they?"
There are many different beliefs people have today. Some
people flatly disbelieve that there are planets orbiting the
stars that are in the Milky Way. This is false, as there
has been a recent discovery of at least three planets
orbiting a nearby star. Also, the Hubble telescope has
seen, what is thought to be the birth of a starsystem. The
star is surrounded by a large disk of black substance, which
proves the theory of how solar systems are formed. But,
some people think there is only one civilization in a
galaxy. The civilization in their galaxy can not leave
their own galaxy, as that would be intruding on another
civilizations "Holy Land". There is only the smallest
chance of that, as there are more than THREE TRILLION stars
in the Milky Way galaxy. More believable would be that
there are other civilizations out in space, only they
are flying around, ignoring us, as they have no use for a
civilization that is as far ahead of us as we are compared
to ants. No civilization that advanced, would most likely
not be interested in humans and their little lives. Again,
another explanation would be they used some kind of drug
and hibernation method that would keep that person alive,
happy, and able to go wherever that individual wanted to.
There could actually be millions of these happy little
sleepers hiding on a few planets out there.

Why was there such a flurry of UFO sightings just
after the nuclear weapon was exploded in Hiroshima and
Nagasaki? Perhaps they just began to fear what we were
doing to ourselves. The UFOs began to hover over weapon
test sites. The Roswell craft flew over the test site in
Nevada for several days, where the first nuclear weapon was
detonated. The aliens have allegedly abducted many people
since then, performing bizarre tests on them. If it is true
that they are depending on us for genetic cross-breeding to
save their species, then it would be understandable that
they show so much interest.

If these aliens are so interested in genetics of our
species, why didn't they come here before the 1940's? Well,
that's not true. There have been reports of aliens here
before the 1940's. Actually, a long time before. At about
the 11th century, a diary of a young woman was found that
described a red, elongated object that brutally attacked
their small town, killing dozens and kidnapping many more.
The entire town was burned afterwards, and very few
survived. It is very unlikely that someone would make up a
story like this, especially in the 11th century. So we must
spectulate about that event. It could have been anything
from an alien slavery ship, to a meteorite, to a crashing
UFO. But, it would most likely be the slavery ship because
it "Killed and kidnapped" people from the village. A
meteorite has never killed a person in all of history, not
even the comet that leveled 55 square miles of forest in
Russia. As for a crashing spacecraft, this woman described
a "fire beam" and "terrible devils killing and taking
people". I have been convinced that there was some kind
of alien ship looking for slaves, or perhaps they were
starving and we were the only abundant source of food they
could utilize.

The Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI)
program is an operation set up by the government, which not
only sends "Easy to interpret information about us humans,
like the location of our home world, population of the
Earth, and little useful things like that for anyone
listening could hear" but also listens with some of the
largest satellite dishes in the world. So far, they have
discovered no evidence of an advanced civilization. Not
that they are telling about anyway. SETI has taught us many
things about strange types of stars, and possibly even black
holes by listening to the radio waves. It is also said that
SETI is merely a fake little operation set up by the
government to try to convince people they are looking, but
there's nothing out there. There are many, many people who
claim to have seen UFOs and the aliens within these craft.
While most of these are proven hoaxes, and many more
unsubstantiated, there are enough sightings that are
investigated, and remain mysteries. To say that there
aren't

UFOs is impossible to prove, short of parading onto Larry
King Live with a "One eyed, one horned, flying purple people
eater". The government has repeatedly denied the existence
of UFOs for years, but, all the investigations that they
have staged seem to indicate that the US military, at least,
takes UFOs very seriously.

Then the cigar increased its speed and flew away over the mountains.

This incident could cause much trouble, because earlier the border guards and military ships monitoring service missed this target. Then the military was unable to trace this flying object over the country’s territory. The Border District command ignored and ordered the monitors not to disclose the information that the object reached a speed up to 2000 kilometers per hour. Similar case took place in 1984 in Turkestan Military District. Near the city of Astrakhan air-defense system marked the ball-shaped object flying at the altitude of 2000 meters along the Caspian seashore in the direction of the state border. The object did not respond to the inquiry made by the military on the radio. Two fighter-planes took off, but they were unable to bring the object down. After being under fire, the object descended up to 100 meters, and at this low altitude the planes were unable to continue firing. Despite being fired at, the object was having a regular speed. The ball passed over several military units, which allowed to make its photo. Near the city of Krasnoyarsk the military tried to bring the object down with the helicopter. However, it quickly increased its altitude so that the helicopter could not reach it. After firing all its supply of shells, the helicopter landed, and the ball abruptly flew in the direction of the sea and disappeared from the radar screens.

In the same area the similar scenario case happened later. The object having the shape of cylinder demonstrated its invulnerability. Such a demonstration could be the purpose of its flight, because this UFO was having a speed of 100 kilometers per hour. One can blame the military of inhuman actions on bringing down flying objects. But what can they do if the object was moving in the direction of the state border and they had the order to destroy such objects? In 1985 near the town of Krasnovodsk the radar station under the command of Captain Valuev registered the disc-shaped object in size of 1,000 meters! The object was immovable, and some time later a small disc in size of 5 meters flew out of it and then landed on Krasnovodskaya spit. Patrol boats rushed to that area, but when they reached the distance of 100 meters from the object, it took off and flew one kilometer away. This happened five times. Then the object flew up at a huge speed, reached the bigger disc, which finally flew away spaceward. In the end of the 60s a secret laboratory of researching “flying objects” was created in the USSR. Among the laboratory’s tasks was researching anti-gravitation, but the research results were made secret. Its testing area was near the town of Kapustin Yar on purpose. In the end of June of 1971 the military could see over this area a black cigar-shaped flying object floating under the clouds at the altitude of 800 meters. The object was 25 meters long and had about 3 meters in diameter. It had neither stabilizers nor wings nor engines and was moving at the speed of 150 kilometers per hour producing no noise. In 1978 году Soviet Ministry of Defense accepted Network MO program. Special military unit in the town of Mytishi was in charge of collecting data, and newly established “space troops” were designated to fight possible threat from space.
In the beginning of August 1987 five soldiers of Leningrad Military District went to the North of Karelia region on a special mission. They were required to guard the object of unknown origin. It was found on the territory of another military unit near the town of Vyborg. The item was 14 meters long, 4 meters wide, 2.5 meters high. The object had neither doors no hatches, and all attempts to open its hull were unsuccessful. The military tried to break off some object parts, but were only able to take some rods from its stern. The news was released last night, Sunday May 9, 2004 by Jaime Maussan, researcher and tv journalist during the tv show Los Grandes Misterios del Tercer Milenio (Great Misteries of the Third Millenium) broadcast by mexican tv network Multimedios Television in the city of Monterrey, N.L.

Jaime Maussan announced that on Tuesday May 11 there will be an international press conference to present the case and the investigation made by the Department fo Defense along with Maussan's research team in an unprecedent colaboration. The press conference will take place at the Hotel Sevilla Palace in Mexico city at 11:00 AM were all the international media representatives have been invited. Previously on Monday's night an advance report will be broadcast on national television newscast.

All the facts and materials of the investigation will be presented at the conference including the official footages by the Air Force as well as interviews with the pilots and personal involved in the amazing incident.

THE FACTS:

On April 20, 2004 Jaime Maussan was contacted by a high officer of the Department of Defense to have a private meeting and discuss a subject of a high relevant matter. The next day Maussan met General Clemente Vega Garcia, Secretary of Defense and his major staff and was informed about an incident that took place on March 5, 2004 on the aerial space of Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche where an Air Force Merlín C26A Bimotor airplane was doing a routinary flight to detect a smuggling drug airplane during an antinarcotics operation.

The Merlin C26A was equipped with a high tech advanced digital equipment to register and record all the activities during the operation. Powerful sensor detectors like a FLIR STAR ZAPPHIR II and a RADAR AN/PS 143 BRAVO VICTOR 3 were being used by qualified personal aboard the airplane and all the operation was being recorded both in normal and infrared mode.

The airplane was under the command of Mayor Magdaleno Jasso Núñez. The FLIR operator was Lt. Mario Adrián Vázquez and the RADAR operator Lt. German Ramirez, all of them members of the 501 Aerial Squadron.

This airplane is programmed only for surveillance and detection procedures, not for interception or combat maneuvres. Their duty is to detect and identify drug dealers filghts and then inmediately report them to the base where combat planes are scrambled to intercept those narcotics smugglers.

At aproximately 17:00 PM the Merlin C26A detected an unknown traffic at 10,500 feet over Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche airspace and according to the protocol and suspecting a drug dealer airplane Mayor Magdaleno Jasso made a maneuver to approach the unidentified traffic at certain range to get a close look and record the target with their equipment. At the same time Mayor Jasso reported by radio to the base that a posible suspect was detected requesting the interceptor planes to be in alert condition.

The RADAR AN/PS 143 BRAVO VICTOR 3 was detecting the unknown traffic and the FLIR STAR ZAPPHIR II was recording the object in infrared. As the Merlin C26A tried to approach the unknown traffic to make a visual identification it suddenly in a surprising maneuver escaped flying away at tremendous speed. By this time Mayor Jasso tried to persecute the target but it was very fast. All this was being recorded by the FLAIR and also the radio conversations with the base describing the inexpected maneuver of the unknown. However the C26A still have not made visual contact with the unknown object.

Just some moments passed when suddenly the unknown object returned and began following the Merlin C26A in a surprising situation. This was detected by the RADAR and the FLIR while the personal aboard were trying to make visual contact of the unidentified traffic now following them. In seconds the equipment detected now not only one but two traffics following them. The images in both RADAR and the FLIR were clear and unmistakable. But both pilot and personal still could'nt have visual contact with these two traffics following them adding a great suspense to this disconcerting situation.

Mayor Magdaleno Jasso reported to the base the insolit incident that was taking place giving detail of all the informations registered by the equipment while keep trying to make visual contact of the unknowns. The FLIR kept recording in infrared every movement made by the two unknown objects that seemed to be keeping their distance from the C26A but still following it. The personal aboard the Merlin C26A were confused and disconcerted seeing the images on the FLIR and the RADAR asking themselves what was going on with this insolit situation.

THE INCIDENT TURNS MORE DRAMATIC

But the stressing moment that the C26A crew were passing through was just the beguinning of something more dramatic that will turn their undesirable experience into a real nightmare.

Some minutes passed while the mexican Air Force Merlin C26A crew continued making maneuvers to have a visual contact of the unknowns because despite both RADAR and FLIR were showing perfectly clear both unidentified objects for unexplained reasons there was not a visual contact even that the objects by this time were at close range.

It was during this round and round maneuvers to identify these two objects that something amazing happened. In a matter of seconds more unknown objects arrived to the scene and the disconcert of the C26A crew was total.

The RADAR and the FLIR detected immediately the presence of nine new objects of the same size and characteristics, unknown objects that arrived to the scene surprisingly like coming from nowhere. Now the situation has entered into a high level of danger so Mayor Magdaleno Jasso reported by radio to the base this new situation requesting instructions.

But the most insolit thing was that even that there were eleven unknown objects close to them still the crew could'nt see them, no visual contact with the unknowns was posible for some reason never experienced before by these high trained men. However the high tech sophisticated equipment and sensors were not lying, there were eleven targets outside them with unpredictable intentions.

At the middle of a complete confusion and disconcert among the C26A crew the unknown objects suddenly made a maneuver surrounding the mexican Air Force airplane in a circle at close range. The RADAR and FLIR presented an insolit image of an eleven objects near by in a circle formation around the Merlin C26A. The situation turned out of control.

Mayor Magdaleno Jasso reported to the base that the C26A situation was now in red alert, surrounded by eleven mysterious round shaped objects camouflaged with a certain unknown advanced technology that avoid any visual contact of them. However Mayor Jasso kept the calm as well as the crew who were working fast meassuring and recording every detail of this unique incident conscientious of their duty as military and trained men.

Confronting this situation surrounded by unidentified objects in an unpredictable ending Mayor Magdaleno Jasso took the decision of turning out all the airplane lights and wait to see what happened. Moments of high suspense lived by the crew while the FLIR was recording the images of those bright objects even that visual contact was not posible, moments of silence and uncertainty.

The C26A crew kept calmed doing their duty, documenting every moment of the strange incident while Mayor Jasso continued in contact with the base. After some stressing minutes the eleven objects dissapeared giving an end to the strange experience that these members of the 501 Aerial Squadron just lived. The Merlin C26A returned safe to the Air Force Base and Mayor Magdaleno Jasso prepared a complete report of the incident along with the C26A crew.

The Secretary of the Defense took notice of Mayor Jasso's report and began a full investigation studying and evaluating every element of the case. Statements of the crew, images, lectures, meassurements of all the equipment as well as a complete evaluation of the meteorological data . The incident was taken very seriously by the Department of Defense Staff and after several weeks of investigation they decided under the command of General Clemente Vega Garcia to contact researcher and tv journalist Jaime Maussan for a special colaboration in this investigation as an experienced researcher in these matters.

On April 22, 2004 General Clemente Vega, Secretary of Defense gave Jaime Maussan a copy of all the tapes and data collected by the Merlin C26A during the incident for study, evaluation and analisis by Maussan's research team as complement of this investigation and as an external colaborating source trying to establish a definition of the posible motives and consequences of the March 5, 2004 incident.

General Vega as well as his staff were very open to discuss the subject and showed their legitimate interest in conducting this investigation in order to establish the truth of what happened. General Vega authorized the Merlin C26A crew to give Jaime Maussan the interviews needed without any censorship, giving all the facilities to present this case to the mexican people, an historic and unprecedent decision that will open a new era of mutual colaboration among the mexican ufologists and the military forces, a colaboration based in respect and interest to find the truth of the intense UFO activity we have been experiencing here in Mexico since the beguinning of the Amazing Mexican UFO Wave back in July 11, 1991.

This new era of relationship among the mexican UFO witnesses, skywatchers, ufologists and our military forces will try to establish and give form to a new legislation in our law system focused to be prepared for any incident involving these unidentified flying objects, our people, our comercial and military airplanes etc. for learning and understanding what are we going to do and how are we going to confront this reality.

On the basis of the previous thing there were not found sources of electric magnetic phenomenons by electric centrals or sismic movements. There were not found posibilities of any Ball of Fire effect caused by volcanic activity.

There were not registries of solar storms in that moments or relevant solar explosions. Therefore the posibilities of ionization luminic effects like St. Elmo Fire or electric storms were discarded. I do not sign my name to remain anonymous. I am sending you some incredible photographs. I have studied these for months, and they are still a mystery to me. In my area, black helicopters I see quite often, since I am located about 10 kilometers from the base of Cervia, the home base of the 5° Stormo Caccia Intercettori...
I see the helicopters and also F16s flying very low near my house, and I often film them. In other words, there is a lot of military activity here. I almost always have a camera at hand, for the times they come over.

On February 22, 2008, it was very cloudy, probably some it chemtrails. I am sending you photographs of some very strange activity in the skies. I saw a helicopter flying very low. I watched and filmed this activity through the window of my house.
I saw three luminous spheres in the sky to the left of the helicopter. I could not see what type of helicopter it was. When I first saw the three spheres and helicopter in close proximity, I felt a sense of terror.

Ufos spotted in Indonesia, China

It's been a busy December for skywatchers in the Eastern Hemisphere, as citizens of Indonesia, China and Australia have all reported seeing unidentified flying objects.

In Indonesia, witnesses told a radio station they saw an object flying across the sky near Jakarta yesterday morning.

Dozens of witnesses claim they heard loud explosions after seeing the object leave a tail of fire.

"It's suspected that a fireball originating from a big meteor entered the Earth's atmosphere. ... This created the explosion," Thomas Djamaluddin, an official with the Indonesian space center, LAPAN, told the Antara news agency.

Published reports say Indonesia has been on high alert for fear of attacks by Islamic terrorists during the holiday period.

On Saturday, Dec. 12, hundreds of people in northwest China's Gansu province witnessed "a strange shining object" sweeping through the sky at 11:36 p.m. local time.

The Gansu daily says it was followed by "earthshaking sounds like bombing." Residents also reported an ensuing tremble felt within 100 kilometers of Lanzhou, the capital of the province.

One man who was driving at the time said he saw "a shining ball with a three-meter-long trail flying from west to east," and that he heard two thunder-like sounds immediately afterward.

More than 700 reports were filed with authorities on the case, with some residents reporting an earthquake, and others claiming a meteor event.

Police, working on the theory it was a meteorite, have been investigating the matter, but haven't found any evidence of what caused the phenomenon.

As WorldNetDaily reported two weeks ago, Australians were baffled by mysterious, multi-colored lights which appeared to hover in the sky.

Laboratory technician Julie Lynn, a self-described skeptic of unidentified flying objects, said, "It hovered in the one place for at least two hours but had moved significantly when we checked on it again before we went to bed. I can't believe there are UFOs or little green men out there – there must be an obvious explanation. And we weren't drinking so it wasn't something we imagined."

The NEPA and UFOs

In General Twining's famous "Flying Saucers Are Real" letter of September 1947, he directed that information collected about the phenomenon be sent to a number of agencies, with one of them being the NEPA project or "Nuclear Energy for the Propulsion of Aircraft."

The possibility of proving that a nuclear-powered aircraft of some sort existed would have been a powerful motivation to certain people in their quest for information about UFOs. Any of the persons involved in the Fairchild Engine and Airplane Corporation NEPA division situated at Oak Ridge, Tennessee, for example, would have a lot to gain if it could be proved atomic engines were feasible, be they Russian or Martian, The budgetary hassles with Congress would be put to rest. Jobs would become secure in the case of civilians, and in the case of the military the prestige invested would not be lost. With that in mind, it is not surprising that Colonel John Hood of the Air Material Command Field Engineering Office, Oak Ridge, whose pet project was apparently the Air Force's proposed atomic plane, led the effort to investigate strange radiation readings at the Tennessee facility.

A brief history of the NEPA project:
In October, 1945, Congressional hearings initiated a controversy that persisted for years and cost hundreds of millions in tax dollars.
Senator Homer Ferguson asked: "Do you see a future for atomic power in an airplane?"

J. Carlton Ward, Jr., President of Fairchild Engine & Airplane Corporation, testifying on Capital Hill, replied: "The whole tactical concept of war will change to the nation that first solves that problem."
The next day the Chicago Tribune headlined: "PREDICTS ATOM WILL END LIMIT ON PLANE RANGE."
Many experts, however, did not find the answer so clear cut. "Hogwash," snorted atomic scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer. "Too dangerous," roared nuclear expert Edward Teller. Other detractors, senior engineers, exclaimed: "slow, expensive, complicated, and possibly useless."

The United States Army Air Force, desperate to establish itself as a separate service branch so it could drop the word "Army" from its title, saw in Carlton Ward's words a possible salvation, for without a very long range bomber the Air Force would forever be tied to the Army in a support role. A nuclear powered plane would in theory have almost unlimited range and would dominate the globe, exciting thoughts for Air Force Generals. The High Command obtained funding and eventually 14,000 people in seven states were hard at work on a futuristic bomber. A commitment of money did not, however, give the project respectability in the eyes of many in the Atomic Energy Commission. For example, Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee had its nuclear aircraft team assigned to a dilapidated building behind the power plant.
In 1947 the Pentagon's Scientific Advisory Committee, headed by J. Robert Oppenheimer and Harvard University President James Conant, recommended termination of research on the atomic powered plane since the radiation shielding problem seemed insurmountable (and not helping matters any was that veterans of the Manhattan Project resented the Air Force's intrusive behavior). This rebuff to the Air Force's ambitions was not calmly received, especially when the United States Navy's atomic-powered submarine plans were going forward quickly without serious technical difficulties. There's no love lost between the Air Force and the Navy in the competition for the most advanced weapon systems.

Vigorous lobbying in Congress won for the Air Force a review of the atomic bomber project before termination was implemented. In the summer of 1948 some 45 engineers, metallurgists, aeronautics specialists, and physicists, gathered at Lexington, Massachusetts, for a secret brainstorming session. After extensive talks the Air Force managed a narrow victory and the project was allowed to continue on the recommendation of the experts.
The attraction of an atomic powered bomber to the Air Force almost seemed to border on the unreasonable. A more rational solution to the Air Force's problem of achieving a long range capability was in-flight refueling of conventional bombers (A solution pushed by the Air Force's think tank RAND and one that was eventually adopted), but the in-flight concept was intentionally ignored.
It might be asked: "What about rockets?" Here the problem was again one of range. The only thing available was improved versions of the Nazi V-2 brought to the U.S. after the war in Europe and the range of that missile was only some 250 miles, hardly making it the intercontinental weapon system the Air Force wanted.

Besides design difficulties involved in the problem of increasing range, there was heated debate among the services about which one should be in charge of rocket warfare. Many felt missiles should be considered a kind of artillery therefore the gunnery experts of the Army and the Navy were encouraged to seek exclusive control of what was asserted to be basically a ballistic weapon. Missiles, it was argued, did not "fly" so why give them to the Air Force? The Air Force put up a half-hearted fight since it did not look forward to being "silo-sitters," the soul of that service imbued with the romance of flight. Air Force Chief of Staff Curtis Le May typified the mood. He allocated meager funds for Air Force missile research, and to a critic of his missile prejudice Le May snapped: "Sir, a missile has neither loyalty nor discrimination."
Of course the Air Force would have had no trouble at all with their atomic plane plans if it could be proved the Russians had already developed a similar craft that could travel to North America, maneuver, and then return to Asia. Le May could have had a blank check from Congress.
Here something else enters the picture. The Air Force had an enormous amount of verbal Intelligence that indicated the possible existence of an aircraft of foreign manufacture that did have extreme range capabilities, while displaying powers of maneuverability that were on the same level of amazement as atomic energy. This verbal Intelligence was of a most extraordinary character. The Air Force was receiving hundreds of "flying saucer" reports.
It was probably no accident that James Conant of Harvard was the chief of the Air Force's first UFO investigative effort, project SIGN. At the time of project SIGN, Conant, serving on the Pentagon's scientific advisory committee, was under great pressure to evaluate whether the atomic bomber was a rational concept. There were just too many questions and no assurance how much time and money it would take answer them.

This view of events shows how concerned the Air Force was about the possibility "flying saucers" were atomic powered aircraft. It also shows that there was a very substantial reason for censorship of UFO material other than the "aliens from space" idea pushed so hard by Keyhoe.
Although the atomic powered aircraft plan was scrapped some years ago ( it was a billion dollar bust) much information concerning the work is still classified and those files might well contain a number of interesting documents pertaining to the UFO mystery.

UFO Contacts and Abductions.

50 years have gone by since Kenneth Arnold saw "flying saucers" from his private plane over Washington state. In the intervening years, we hardly know anything else about the matter. Nonetheless, the UFO phenomenon has in some way managed to become more extensive, invading fields such as the psychic and the religious, aside from such rumours as the Roswell crash or the ever-present Hangar 18, which are related to the "great UFO coverup" allegedly perpertrated by the U.S intelligence community.
From George Adamski onward, a wave of rumors involving contact by apparently extraterrestrial beings sweeps across the country. They were tall and blonde, hailing from the planet Venus, and came in peace, acting as our elder brothers.
Between 1968 and 1978, small humanoid beings -- having large black eyes and lacking ears or noses -- are reported in different parts of the world. Hypnotic regression reminded the protagonists of the Betty Hill case (1961) that they experienced a surgical procedure aboard their ship, and these creatures claimed to be from another star system.

Between 1980 and 1990, ufologists intensified their search for the UFO phenomenon. Bestselling books on the subject, such as Missing Time, Intruders, Communion and Transformation, dealing with the subject of nocturnal abductions, deal with extraterrestrial "grey" creatures who perform sinister experiments on helpless human beings who are unable to remember the events without the benefit of hypnotic regression. The contactee phenomenon is hardly a new one: it is well known throughout the histories of many cultures and civilizations, and to a lesser degree, there are also historical antecedents for the abductions.
By "contactee" we must understand the relationship, be it visual, auditory, telepathic, onirical or even physical, with intelligent non-human creatures.
Contactees may be divided into the following categories:
1. Prophets, visionaries, and psychics such as Jesus, Nostradamus, Adamski, Rael, Moses, Hill, etc.
2. Groups or cults such as the Ashtar Command, Tuella, Marla, the Mormons, E. Siragusa, Scientology, Nazism, etc.
3. Entire nations, such as the ancient Hebrews and their YHWH, the Etruscans and their "guide", and the Aztec Empire and its deities.
By "abductee" or UFO abduction, we must understand this to mean those cases in which a person or persons are introduced into an unknown vehicle, against their will, and where they routinely undergo physiological or medical examinations of some kind or another, and the subject(s) generally have no recollection of the event. The Mexican case involving a pilot like Antonio de los Santos Montiel is also an abduction experience.
A Biblical case dealing with a conscious abduction is that of the prophet Elijah, who was taken to heaven in a fiery whirlwind from which he was able to see the earth becoming smaller, and time in heaven went by more slowly (principles of the Special Theory of Relativity).

The Brazilian case of Antonio Villas Boas, in which the abductee is forced to have sexual contact with a female humanoid alien in order to procreate a child on another world. As Charles Fort was moved to observe, it appears that we are owned by something.
Physical contacts of the "fourth kind", also known as abductions in the UFO world, are begining to occupy a considerable space in the extensive literature on the subject. Yet there has been a change taking place in the last fifty years, and it involves the degree of fanaticism among the believers in the phenomenon from a cultic or religious standpoint: that the space brothers are the gods of antiquity, humanity's saviours, and are here to rescue us in case of an emergency!
This idea has increased to such broad proportions in these times due to economic crises, pollution, wars, the threat of nuclear warfare and the systematic destruction of nature and global ecology.

It is as if the gods of yesteryear no longer satisfy the people of the world, but the hope of finding extraterrestrial intelligence in some part of the universe has inspired the U.S. to spend 500 million dollars in its quest by means of SETI. The Vatican has already stated that should any beings exist on other world, it will baptize them; Protestant churches have already planned to evangelize them, and the White House plans to democratize them.
To date, we really do not know what is going on, but it is evident that what is transpiring is nothing new -- merely part of the great manipulation to which humanity has been subjected since man achieved consciousness and knows that he is not alone in the universe, the solar system, or even on Earth.

UFO Abductions In Germany, Austria and Switzerland

Dr. Johannes Fiebag was born in 1956, and is Germany's leading abduction research specialist. He has published many books about alien contact in ancient and modern times, and four books specifically about the abduction phenomenon in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Dr. Fiebag founded the CE-IV-Report, a newsletter for abductees, and he also organizes an annual meeting called Project Exchange that allows abductees to network with one another. In addition to CE-IV-Report and Project Exchange, Dr. Fiebag has also formed an interdisciplinary organization of psychiatrists, psychologists and other medical professionals who work to help traumatized abductees.
Introduction Exactly fifty years ago, the modern UFO age began. At that time, on the 24th of June in 1947, an American pilot named Kenneth Arnold observed several crescent-shaped objects. Arnold described the objects as looking like a saucer might look if it were skipping across the water. The media adapted the term "flying saucer," hence, from this sighting a new term was born. [1] In the middle of the sixties, a new aspect of the UFO phenomenon became known, which until that time, nobody had any knowledge about. However, it was not until the seventies that UFO researchers became interested in it. This aspect - one that could be considered a sub-phenomenon - is the abduction of a human being into a UFO by alien beings. Today the abductions themselves appear to be at the heart of the UFO phenomenon. Without a deeper understanding of abductions, it is difficult to explain the presence of the UFOs.

Abductions:
What occurs during an abduction that causes the individual to feel both alarmed and euphoric? What kinds of changes occur to individuals who experience an abduction? What happens to their environment and with the people who are with them? To be honest, we do not really know the answers to all of these questions. We have only the reports from those people who have encountered this phenomenon first-hand. We have statistical results, identical statements from people who do not know one another, and experiences that seem to repeat themselves. However, we still do not know why the abductions are occurring in the first place. Abductees almost always report the same thing: strange figures appearing in their room; they are taken - kidnapped - from their environment to suddenly find themselves inside a strange room. Once there, they are subjected to bizarre physical and psychological procedures. For example: the artificial insemination of women, followed by the removal of the grown embryo months later. After such procedures the abductee is then returned to their home or to their car in each case. However, with all this in mind, we must be aware that until now, only a sub-set of experiences representing the phenomenon has been made public, and even this sub-set may be an illusion: it may not correspond to what really happened to the abductee, but rather, what they "believe" occurred to them.

The Hill Case:
Abductions by alien beings has been known since the early sixties. The famous Hill case is now considered a classic case. Betty and Barney Hill encountered a landed UFO on a secluded highway in 1961 in Canada. If we want to believe their report, they claim to have been forced - under mental control - into the landed object. In separate rooms, they were subjected to physiological tests. Betty was also was shown a star map and was asked by one of the UFO occupants if she recognized where she was on the map. Betty said she did not know. Later, Betty and Barney were returned to their car. It is believed that the aliens made them forget most their experience by the use of a post hypnotic suggestion or command. Only when the Hills arrived home, did they notice they were three hours late. Barney began to have nightmares and after some time, he developed a gastric ulcer. Betty and Barney went to a doctor, but he referred them to a psychiatrist named Dr. Benjamin Simon. Dr. Simon used regressive hypnosis on Betty and Barney Hill (during separate visits) and took them back to the events that transpired that night they saw the UFO.

Current Reports:
Today we know that most abductions occur where one expects them the least. They begin where we feel secure: at home. The aliens penetrate the bedrooms of the abductees, in most cases appearing as small gray beings with huge heads and big black eyes. It is mostly the memory of the aliens' entering into the abductee's home that remains preserved in the conscious memory of the abductee. The beings bring the abductee, using an unknown technology, into strange rooms. They subject them to medical tests, physical experiments, and psychological tests. Then they return the abductee in the same unknown manner. The abducted person awakens in the morning and can remember very little about the events from the night before. [Although there are a few people who remember a lot of details.] However, for the most part, the abductee will only detect an unusual injury, a wound or scars that were not yet there the night before. It has also become clear that abductions are not single events. They usually begin in early childhood and occur episodically again and again throughout the individual's life.
Conventional Explanations Inadequate:
There are numerous conventional explanations that have attempted to explain abduction experiences. However, these approaches are not able to explain all of the different aspects of the abduction process. Sometimes the people behind these conventional explanations manipulate the events in order to make the explanation fit with the experience. Let's have a look at some of the hypotheses that have been proposed to explain the abduction process: ? Do people who claim to have been abducted by alien beings suffer from psychoses or schizophrenia? Hallucinations are usually the product of an enduring schizophrenic illness. These people are completely withdrawn and are incapable of participating in life or in social events. However, illnesses such as these have never been found to account for an "abduction" experience. ? It has also been proposed that UFO abductees suffer from the phenomenon of Multiple Personality Disorder or MPD. Actually, we know today that a person's consciousness can split into several different personalities. This has occurred, for example, in children or people who have been sexually abused.
In these instances, a partial or second personality takes over for the time needed and the main personality resigns and then feels a loss of time later. Importantly, all tests carried out up to the present show that abductees do not suffer from Multiple Personality Disorder. In addition, there are numerous cases in which the abducted person actually disappeared during an abduction experience. And of course, this does not occur with multiple personality disorder. Another hypothesis is that abductees suffer from Paranoia. Paranoid individuals are passive, unsure, evasive people. They are not able to accept their own feelings and they transmit them to others. They feel persecuted by these "other" people; they feel they are under attack and are at the center of a worldwide conspiracy. Paranoia or paranoid episodes develop over a period of years, so there is a traceable history for their illness. ?
UFO abductees suffer from their share of fears, but they do not show the internal dynamics that you find in paranoid patients. For example, their fear wasn't there before the abduction occurred - it came on suddenly and without any overt stimulus. In clinical psychology it is without precedent for a worldwide Paranoia to be directly linked to the same cause. ? Perhaps it is a mass hysteria? Hardly. A mass hysteria can only result from very specific conditions. It is possible in cases of very narrow contact of the participants or in communities that are isolated from the outside world. It has never before been observed with individuals who have no contact with each other and live hundreds of miles away from one another.
Today, it is very popular among skeptics to assume that abductions and the bedroom visitor observations are simply hallucinations during sleep paralysis. Actually, sleep paralysis is a normal physiological phenomenon. During REM (Rapid Eye Movement or during the dream phase) the central nervous system paralyzes the body. Only the pupils can move under the closed eyelids. This paralysis can sometimes last into the first moments of wakefulness: The spirit [mind - consciousness] is already "awake," but the body is still in the state of sleep. Many abductees report a similar type of paralysis. They awake from sleep to find that their body is paralyzed and at best, are only able to move their eyes back and forth. It is during this moment of terrible fear that the strange beings approach them or step onto their bed.
The question automatically arises: Have all of these people really experienced temporary sleep paralysis? Did they awaken from a dream to find that they could not move, and then become terrified? Then later they tell stories of small gray beings standing next to their bed? Is this what really constitutes the heart of the visitor phenomenon? Certainly not. We simply have too much information that contradicts this assumption. First, the perception of the bedroom visitor itself. His appearance is automatically by no means combined with sleep paralysis. Even more important is the simultaneous perception of these intruders by married couples, siblings, friends and acquaintances; as well as the simultaneous paralysis of several persons. The paralysis and hallucinations of one individual can hardly explain this.
In addition, during an abduction paralysis also occurs in the waking state, for example, immediately after an abductee goes to bed, or after they have already awakened. And finally, we must take into account, the many abductions that have occurred in broad daylight without the abductee being in their bed. Important questions we must ask during this discussion are: Are all of these people who are experiencing sleep paralysis having completely identical hallucinations? Can so many people be sick in exactly the same manner? Do all of them suffer from identical hallucinations? Do all of them dream about identical figures which do the same thing to them every time? To accept these beliefs is much more improbable than the simple hypothesis that these people have experienced an alien abduction.

Abductions in Europe:
The phenomenon of alien abduction is not limited to America. I am currently working with several abductees in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. They are very normal people like you and me. This sketch [slide] shows the evaluation of an investigation that I undertook with the German test psychologist Gerd Höchsmann, on 100 people who claimed to have been abducted. The Maudsley Personality Inventory or MPI matches the test subject to one of the different psychological and psychopathological groups we know exist. You can see that only five of the subjects who were tested classified as psychopathic, and therefore, were psychologically ill. Clearly, the majority of the test subjects are in the upper field. In other words, they are completely normal people. The distribution tells us that out of this sample, 95 percent of the subjects who claim to have had abduction experiences are psychologically healthy individuals. The number of abductees who go public with their information is also very small. Hardly anyone wants to put him or herself in the spotlight of this type of "fame," which in the final determination has very doubtful consequences in our society. However, in one respect, they all seem to be ahead of the rest of us. They have met the unknown - they have met with The Others.

Important Cases:
At this point, I would like to provide you with some brief examples and descriptions of a few cases. Nicole is a 38 year-old television journalist from Munich. She invited me to a TV program about the abduction phenomenon in January of last year. After the television show she reported to me that she has experienced something similar to an abduction. During a vacation to Hawaii, Nicole had to go to the bathroom one night and she looked at the window. She then saw a round object with a dome-like structure at the top. It landed on a hill, one hundred meters away from the house. Something like a porthole opened. Nicole stated, "A flashing white light appeared in it and a figure emerged. The figure went down an invisible stairway. However, it stopped after two steps. I had the feeling that he detected me, saw me or felt my presence. I panicked. I ran into the bedroom as fast as I could and hid in the bed under the bedspread. I do not know how long I stayed there and trembled. I don't know how much time passed until I finally got up and went to the kitchen to get something to drink. It was already becoming daylight when I went back to bed again." If anything else occurred that night, Nicole cannot remember it.
Most of these experiences and subsequent abductions in the individual's life are somehow deleted from their memory. Nevertheless, my conversation with Nicole caused a spontaneous memory of an earlier experience to surface. Nicole wrote to me a short time later. In her letter she said, "I remember a dream which was so dreadfully real. I dreamed that men came into my apartment and into my bedroom. They seemed amused and whispered to each other wondering if I was asleep or not. I had heard a crash on the terrace earlier, so I was not asleep. The men applied some devices to my back. After a while I heard them leaving the room. I jumped from my bed and was surprised to see that my nightgown wasn't on me anymore. However, on the roof terrace, I noticed that two small limbs had been broken off a tree." Many people have had similar bedroom visitor experiences.
In numerous cases, the abductions began in their early childhood. For example, Eva-Maria from Berlin, remembers an event that occurred when she was about five years old: "I lay awake in my bed. Something moved above my head. It seemed to be a feminine presence. Suddenly, I saw three light bullets [three lights] hovering above my forehead in the air. Even when I had closed my eyes, I still saw the light glimmer through my eyelids." Hans-Joerg is a retail businessman and lives in Dortmund. He reported the following to me: "Some years ago, when I was living with my fiancee, something happened that made me completely confused. It made my fear of darkness in my own apartment become almost pathological. I cannot remember the precise date. It was at the end of 1990, or at the beginning of 1991. One night I awakened and saw a small male passing by me. I know how mad this sounds... He was about a meter tall and seemed to be wearing something like a hood. He did not look at me, but he passed by me and went into the corner. However, there was no door at all. Since I was afraid he would be able to tell that I was awake I followed him with my eyes only and did not dare breathe. My girlfriend did not wake up. Later she saw that all I could do was sit in a cramped manner in the bed. I couldn't do anything else the entire time because of my intense fear."
Thirty-six year old Carola is a photographer from a small village in the German state of Mecklenburg. She had a very impressive experience at the end of March of 1994: "It was around eleven o'clock in the evening. The children were already asleep and I was by myself. On my way to my room, I suddenly felt uncomfortable, as if I were being watched. I checked everywhere, including the windows. The courtyard was dark. I suddenly became panic-stricken and ran into the bedroom and got into bed. After I had calmed down a little bit, I suddenly heard a strange humming sound. I was frightened and wanted to sit up so I could hear better, but I could not move. I was paralyzed. I recognized several small gray figures at the end of my bed. They seemed to be saying something in relation to me. Two similar figures also stood next to my son's bed. My fear for my 15 month old son was indescribable. I wanted to call my daughter, but I could not. At this moment I knew that it would had been pointless because they were also with her in her room. I sensed that precisely. She groaned aloud in her sleep. Then suddenly - I wasn't able to hear or see. And the worst was when I noticed that my mind was unable to form words and sentences. It was as if all of my abilities were suddenly taken away. All I knew was that it was all connected to the hideous figures. We are handed over to them now, and perhaps forever. I don't really know what happened to my family and me."
Scientific evidence of alien abductions does not appear to exist. At best, we have circumstantial evidence like the broken tree limbs on the roof terrace belonging to Nicole. This lack of pure scientific evidence makes it difficult for us to study this phenomenon. It continuously slips away from our grip. Every time we think we are making progress and gaining understanding, it slips back into the darkness and we stay in a fog of ignorance and confusion. But something continues to occur at night when we sleep at night...when we enter into that strange and extraordinary dream world.

Historical Perspective:
I want to back up in time and give you a historical perspective of this phenomenon.
It would seem that UFO abductions were occurring as far back as the Middle Ages. At that time in history a great number of people were being abducted by airships. They were thought to be powerful magicians from the mythological Magonia land, far away and beyond the horizon. Similar events occurring today are attributed to powerful extraterrestrials from far away beyond the stars. When we compare ancient chronicles, myths and legends, to what is occurring today, it seems we going through the same mystical visitations yet again. In past centuries people believed they were being taken away by fairies, dwarfs and elves. Fairies were said to have robbed pregnant women of their newborn children in order to raise them as their own.
It is even possible that the tales about Incubi and Succubi, so well known in the Middle Ages, may have originated by these earlier forced sexual contacts with alien beings. Originally, they were interpreted as demonic beings. Masked as pretty young women or men, they generated lustful dreams and then engaged in sexual intercourse with their sleeping victims: Succubi with women, Incubi with men. Even the German religious reformer Martin Luther believed that demons provided human sperm, and became procreative in hopes of obtaining human or human-like offspring. It sounds strange, but the behavior of the Succubi and Incubi, as well as the imaginations, dreams, and memories of their victims, resemble reports of the modern abduction and bedroom visitor phenomenon. The stories parallel one another in such a striking manner that it appears appropriate to state that they may be one in the same.
Our current theories, based on the reports from abductees worldwide, shows us that the same phenomenon is occurring today. Sperm is supposedly tapped from men, and numerous female abductees believe they have been artificially inseminated by strange looking alien beings. Two or three months later, the fetus is then removed. It is indeed, a traumatic experience. The scenario that is emerging in so many of our present-day abduction accounts is this: years after these "terminated pregnancies" by alien beings, many of these same women are shown their children again: and they are described as looking like strange hybrid beings who are part human and part alien. This belief of the fertilization of women by heavenly or divine, as well as demonic beings, has pervaded throughout the course of human history. The legend of the virgin birth of Jesus of Nazareth and his conception by the holy spirit can be viewed as the incorporation of much older ideas that have been scattered throughout the ancient World. Many famous men of antiquity were believed to have had "heavenly fathers." For example, God himself went to Sarah, Abraham's wife, in order to beget a son with her. And, according to the legends, Buddha, Krischna, Alexander the Great, and Mohammed were also children of a similar "heavenly" union.
In the mythological imaginations of the common people, strange beings like the Puk originated from such contacts. The description of a small naked gnome with big eyes, a giant head and a comparatively slight body, is certainly similar to the descriptions of the small Greys of our present-day UFO abduction accounts. Again, if we believe the abductees, the beings may be the result of an artificially induced combination between aliens and humans. During the Middle Ages women were confronted with Succubi and men were confronted with Incubi - demons. The same thing is occurring today in the modern UFO phenomenon.

A Male Victim:
Ulrich is a 21 year-old man from Switzerland. Since he was a child he has had numerous experiences, many of them very frightening to him. He has since gained better insight into his experiences through regressive hypnosis. "The event that I can reconstruct best up to now probably occurred the night of the 10th to the 11th of May 1994. I was in my bed sleeping when suddenly I was awakened by a strong, pulsating blue light. I creeped under my blanket and I thought, 'No, not again. This cannot be real!' Then I had the feeling that I was floating, and my conscious memory abruptly ended! The next thing I remembered was laying on a table approximately 50 Centimeters high. I was in a dark room. The wall, ground and ceiling were very smooth. Below my feet and on the right side was something like a marble column. Suddenly, a slim, small white being got on top of me. She had big dark eyes and no hair on her head. Even thought I felt sick, somehow she made me feel sexually excited - I don't understand that. The whole episode was repeated by another one, but I cannot remember her appearance. And as if that wasn't bad enough, a third female came over to me. All I can remember about this last female is that she had more human features.
After this, tears streamed across my face." What Is It? What are we confronted with here? Is it a genetic breeding program for the evolution of a new race? If so, why would it be occurring for a millennia now? I do not believe this "genetic breeding program" theory holds up due to the enormous amount of time these visitations have been occurring. If this were the case the beings would only require a few cells from our bodies. Even hair samples would satisfy their need if this was indeed all these beings are doing. Isn't this precisely what we expect from extraterrestrial beings: they come from other planets; they are somehow different (but perhaps a little bit like ourselves); they fly in shining spaceships; and they land on our Earth to examine us? Centuries ago we believed in fairies - and it was fairies who appeared to the people. At the end of the 19th Century we believed in the coming of Jules Verne's airships - and it was exactly those types of vehicles that were responsible for the first UFO wave in America in 1896.
Today, our high-technology civilization has taken our astronauts to the moon and has given us genetic technology. Also consistent with our modern belief systems, we now have ships from Zeta Reticuli, or the Andromeda galaxy whose occupants carry out genetic experiments and manipulate the human race. It appears to me that the UFO phenomenon adapts itself to our fantasies and ideas. It uses our dreams, our fears, and our individual beliefs. It uses the contradictions which dwell within each of us. Apparently, this intelligence, which I like to term "The Other Ones," uses a kind of mimicry or camouflage behavior*. This enables these beings to operate within the maximum range of possibilities and also allows them to conceal much of their activity.
This alien intelligence must be far more advanced than we are - perhaps hundreds of thousands, or even millions of years ahead of us. It seems to have learned to intervene in reality. Or better said, unlike us, it knows that reality as we know it, does not exist at all. Reality, as we define it, is merely a construct of our brain - of our perception. Whoever gains the knowledge of that fact is able to manipulate what we call "reality." And - they can manipulate it whenever and wherever, and however they wish. What we consider reality, may be for "The Other Ones" nothing more than a play-ground similar to a cyber space simulation or a virtual reality scenario in our culture. We can only imagine what kind of rules govern this strange "game." "The Other Ones" can appear however they (or we) want them to. They can appear as magicians from Magonia, as mysterious aeronauts of the 19th century, as night goblins, as fairies, as small Greys, or beings in shining ships from the stars. The figures that are being observed in this phenomenon are obviously not "The Other Ones" themselves. What we really see are only their projections. Projections formed according to our social, cultural and religious belief systems during the moment of their apparition. These are the shadow masks they conceal themselves behind.

Shapeshifters, Transformers and Camouflage:
Some of the abductees who - during their frightening experiences - found the courage and the strength to ask questions about the deeper meaning of their experience; questions for "why" these things were happening to them, usually received the stereotypical answer: "It is our right!" If it is truly their right, we must ask who has given them this right. In a case that Professor David Jacobs quotes, an abductee reacted with a very frightened response to the Greys when she shouted at them: "Your are transformers!" This is exactly what they are: transformers! They are not what they seem to be. Their camouflage and their behavior conceals what they really are. And who or what is hiding behind the camouflage? We may never find an answer to that question. The explanations we offer will most likely be wrong. This makes the study of this phenomenon all the more complicated. The deeper we attempt to penetrate this phenomenon, the more confusing it may become. However, one thing is certain: these events are happening and they leave their victims with physical and psychological aftereffects. These events occurred in the distant past and they continue to occur today.

Combined Experiences:
There is another subject that is important to mention at this time. The abduction phenomenon appears to be connected with other boundary-type experiences involving human beings. Ina from northern Germany describes an abduction from the year 1991. What's really unusual is that it seems to have been a combined out of body / near death / UFO abduction experience, since the event includes elements of all of these experiences. Ina reported to me: "I laid in the bed. It was around 11 o'clock in the evening. My husband was already asleep and I looked to the window. We have no curtains in the bedroom and because of this I could see the sky very well. Suddenly, my reality changed. It was somehow modified." Modification of reality - what does this mean? Abductees are describing this effect again and again.
For the first time, it was recognized by the British UFO researcher Jenny Randles and called "The Oz Factor" according to the old English tale of the magic land of Oz. It is possible that a real modification of the individual's environment is made or that the consciousness of the person is extended in some way. Both possibilities are conceivable, and both would lead to The Oz Factor. The modification of the subject's reality begins the actual event for the experiencer.
Back to Ina's experience: "I saw a light beam in my room and I floated in it to the outside of the house. Strangely enough, I passed through the window pane in this beautiful bright beam of light. I felt perfectly fine and somehow sensed a being of light on the right side of me. I somehow saw it from the corners of my eyes. I could not recognize the face, but I am certain that it was feminine. I was very excited and happy and I said or thought, 'You really exist!' Oddly enough, I immediately thought about UFOs although I only saw the beam of light and the bright being. This being emitted an unbelievable warmth and kindness and I felt as sheltered as never before in my life. The being answered: 'Surely, what did you think?' She responded very natural and lovingly like a mother would respond to her child who asked a silly question. I was pleased and felt perfectly well."
What did Ina experience here? An out of body journey during which her soul floated through the window? A near death experience during which she was accompanied by a being of light into another dimension of existence? It is exactly these types of experiences that are described by many people who have stood at the threshold of death and returned with conscious memories of their mysterious journey. Was it a classical UFO abduction during which she was taken into an object hovering over her house or was it a combination of all of these? Ina reported further: "I can still remember that we floated upward together in the beam of light. We came to a big oval light which also had an aperture in the light. I saw that I was at this aperture - when suddenly I was back in my bed again. It is strange because everything was the same as before. My husband was asleep and I was still laying with my face to the window. It was as if nothing had happened. However, I am certain that it did happen. I felt and experienced everything. I was excited - and then I fell asleep."
It is difficult to decide where precisely the boundaries are between the so-called "classic" abduction model and experiences such as this one, which may possibly take place in the brain or with the soul of the experiencer. It may indeed, be a combination of an abduction, out of body and a near death experience. It may be that these boundaries are so liquid and blurred, that at the present level of understanding we are unable to recognize or define them. It is also possible that what is occurring with abductees may be the beginning of something much larger. It may be the beginning of a global modification plan which will eventually include more and more people. Some estimates from the United States indicate that approximately 20 percent of all Americans are already describing events related to the abduction phenomenon. From my own work with abductees I believe that a similar number of individuals in Germany, Austria and Switzerland may also be involved. In the past three years, more than 200 people have contacted me, all reporting nearly identical experiences with the unbelievable. This is, however, only the tip of the iceberg. Twenty percent is much more than a single hypothesis can explain. "Perhaps," as Harvard psychiatrist Professor John Mack wrote, "we are all abductees - in one manner or another."

Conclusion:
I am convinced that the alien intelligence behind the UFO phenomenon is in the process of preparing for something very big. In all myths, and in all religions, it says the gods promise to return. I cannot help but believe that this is exactly what we are facing. It may not occur in my lifetime, but it is possible that it will occur very soon after. We should be prepared for this event, because whatever occurs, should concern us all. All of us. That means we will share a global or even universal event - and we still know very little about what is going to occur. At the very least, it is time for everyone to consider the possibilities that await us.
Since the beginning of history, people have been taken into the hands of gods and devils, of fairies and elves and goblins. Today, it is extraterrestrial beings. Sometimes, the witnesses only hear a thunder or see something like a bright flash of light. Sometimes they see airships in the clouds above them and believe the ships are from Magonia or some other mysterious place. Sometimes they observe bizarre air ships hanging in the sky, or they may come in contact with spaceships from Zeta Reticuli. These material manifestations only have a secondary meaning. They are dependent on the time in which the person lives. They are dependent upon the subject's beliefs, knowledge, and their hopes and fears. The basic model of contact between these elusive intelligence's and us has been the same for millennia. We can choose to deny the reality of this model. We can believe that the abductees were only drunk or had visions, or that they dreamed, hallucinated, or made up fairy tales. We would also have to believe that these people - from all over the World - have attempted to make fools of us and they have attempted to do this for many centuries! If you wish to believe this you may. It is your decision as to how you will deal with this information.
No matter how you decide to deny their existence, it will not hinder "The Others Ones." They will continue to appear among us with their array of masks and deceptive camouflage. They will continue to abduct humans and they will continue on their own mysterious path. In all the millennia of human history no one has been able to analyze these beings. We are the first ones who have begun to suspect something and who have questioned their behavior. And - what if it is our own questioning and our own suspicion that brought them to us in the first place? Could their actions only be a mirror of our actions; our interaction with nature? Could this intelligence be a frightening reflection of ourselves - reflected back to us in the UFO phenomenon? Although we are asking the questions and seeking the truth about "The Other Ones" we are still, ladies and gentlemen, light-years away from the answer.

Backyard Ufos of the Third kind or is it the Forth?

9/17/08 About 9:30 PM I did what I usually do take pictures of the night sky looking for Ufo's, this night was purity much like the other nights except for the increase in aerial activity.

As I was looking in the Southwest sky I saw what appeared to be a diamond shape craft one in which I'm very familiar with slowly moving in my direction. I began to track and photograph this craft with a Near IR Digital Camera when suddenly and out of nowhere a brilliant white ball of light moving extremely fast dove across my viewing path doing loops as it went.

Still focus on the craft the ball of light slowed down changed color from white to olive green and made a right turn in the direction of the craft I was focus on. As though they where meeting up with each other.

As I continued to shoot the ball of light came closer as the diamond shape craft seem to disappear from view. Unexpectedly my camera began to shoot rapidly as though I was shooting in the day light hours and had plenty of light. Strange as it sounds the green ball of light was watching me as it bounced side to side right in front of my camera.
It was fantastic I could feel it commutating with me and studying me like someone full of curiosity, this thing, entity or craft moved and acted intelligently to the point I had to stop shooting. I was over whelmed with surprise, there was only two other times that I felt this way and one I will tell you about.
In the month of January on a Wednesday about 12:45 PM I was in the back of a parking lot looking at the sky when I notice what appeared to be a transparent child's blow bubble floating in the air about the size of a orange. It didn't move at all it just sat there floating about 12 feet in front of me.
But what was even stranger it had a tiny yellow fiery light in the middle of the bubble and that that was strange so I decided to get my camera. But something told me not to move for it will not be there by the time you get back. That overwhelming feeling I was being watched came over me again, and all I could do is look in total amazement.

Then suddenly the bubble began to move in a straight angle, slowly picking up speed opposite to the wind, disappearing right before my eyes. If I didn't know better I'd swear I saw an Angle or Tinker Bell, It moved like it was alive or some kind of intelligent machine.
September 12 New Rochelle NY one of the hot spots for Ufos follow the yellow brick road, in this case follow the jets that make the chemtrails and you will find Ufos. You will in most cases not be able to see them with your eyes but if you have a digital camera with a telephoto lens, you will be surprise at what the camera can see that your eyes cant. But after you've seen enough of them and have their movements and shape in your mind, you will start to see them with your necked eye even when they are invisible.

UFO No Longer Unidentified

UFOs aren't necessarily alien spacecraft. And some purported UFOs aren't UFOs at all. Take the example from Apollo 16.

Beginning their return from the moon to an April 27, 1972, splashdown, Astronauts John Young, Thomas Mattingly and Charles Duke captured about four seconds of video footage of an object that seemed to look a lot like Hollywood's version of a spacecraft from another world.

The thing was described as "a saucer-shaped object with a dome on top." The images were captured with a 16mm motion picture camera shooting at 12 frames per second from a command/service module window. The object appears momentarily near the moon. As the camera pans, it moves out of the field of view. It reappears as the camera pans back. It appeared in about 50 frames.

Some very bright people recently worked hard to analyze that footage. Their conclusion was that the object wasn't at all what some observers thought it seemed to be. There is no indication the Apollo 16 crew ever thought the film showed anything special.

A group headed by Gregory Byrne of Johnson Space Center's Image Science and Analysis Group completed a report on its investigation earlier this year. They used a video copy of the film initially, then did a high-resolution digital scan of the original film for detailed analysis

They stabilized images to correct for camera movement, and then aligned multiple frames in a sequence. One thing that showed them was that the object appeared to move slightly with respect to the moon, because of parallax brought about by slight camera motions and the nearness of the object to the camera.The investigators also combined several frames in a sequence, to give them higher resolution and greater contrast than individual frames. The combinations showed them more clearly a "linear feature" attached to one side of the object. They also looked at archived images from other Apollo missions.Bottom line: "All of the evidence in this analysis is consistent with the conclusion that the object in the Apollo 16 film was the EVA [spacewalk] floodlight/boom. There is no evidence in the photographic record to suggest otherwise."

UFO Sighting Reports

Welcome to another session of UFO sighting reports. Here are some cases that caught my attention.

Florida-08-07-08-Traveling on U.S. 1 south bound in the Jensen beach area, I noticed 3 disc-shaped objects in horizontal formation The objects appeared to be very large, considering their distance of 10-15 miles away. These were not like looking at dots in the sky, they were of significant size and seemed to be over the ocean.

My position for the viewing was approximately 4.5 miles inland. The St. Lucie nuclear plant is not far from this point to the north 6 miles away. This was an awesome experience. source: www.mufon.com

Maryland-11-22-07-As I was walking out to my Hearse to put some Goodwill donations in it, I turned to my left, and saw a big, black circle. It looked about 500-700 feet off the ground, hovering over a nearby neighborhood. Tonight was well lit, we had a full moon. And this big circle, hovering in the sky, blocked out clouds and stars. Suddenly, it flew off with unearthly speed, and disappeared into the night sky.

There were no lights coming from it, but there was a clear, disc-shaped outline. If I had to guess, I'd say that they were going stealth tactical. That's what our military would do, and, how it would operate. Was this a UFO from another world, or just a military test vehicle? source: www.mufon.com

New Jersey-08-05-08-Two nights ago while sitting in my back yard sky watching, I had my neighbor come by and he started asking me why I had the binoculars with me, and I told him of the years of sightings and many explained and unexplained things I've seen. At that point I glanced to my right (I had turned my torso due west to speak to my neighbor) 10º N x NW, and saw a bright, star-like object on a steady path heading southeast at approximately 500 ASL (above sea level) much lower than a star right?

I reached for my binoculars while telling my neighbor that this is the reason for them, and I noticed and later found out that my girlfriend was watching it for about 15 seconds before me, and she said it flashed as she was watching the sky. I have a very good pair of Steiner Commanders 7 x 50 Binocular Military grade, and I can zoom and focus before it was directly in front of me (facing true north). It traversed the sky slowly and silently, and would slightly shift from an east trajectory to a southeast trajectory. I handed the binoculars to my girlfriend, and then my neighbor, who was speechless. All we saw was an extremely white star burst. Texas-08-07-08-While sitting outside on my front porch drinking coffee, I happened to look up (towards the east) and noticed what appeared to be a very large star. Then I noticed that it was moving. It was brilliantly lit, and far too large to be a star. The size looked about four times larger than the north star. I would estimate the height to be about 5000 ft, and range about 1-2 miles. It stayed on this heading, and I watched it for about 10 seconds, when suddenly it just disappeared, just like turning off a light switch. West Virginia-08-08-08 I was in my home on the phone, it was midnight, when I wondered where my dog was. I went outside to find my dog hiding frightened on the west side of my house. When I looked to the east, I saw fireballs. It was pitch black outside that night, the moon had gone down early, so you could not miss them. They looked like small suns, hovering over a pond near the road on my property.

At first I thought maybe they were a pole with mounted transformers on fire, so I got into my car with my friend Doug to check it out. I chased the objects down Balmer road for about 7 kms, then they chased me back at high speed over 100km/hr, and returned to the same pond. They looked like basketball-sized fireballs at first, then transformed into mechanical craft with multiple bright lights rotating, shining down at a 45 degree angle onto the pond staying there for 4 hours, at about tree height, 10 to 40 feet. The objects had very smooth actions, almost fluid in movement, able to speed up very fast. For the most part, they hovered up and down in trees over the pond.

There was a very unusual metallic smell associated with this. The object at its closest to me was about 40 feet, and the closest to the ground they got was 5 feet. I want to add that this occurrence was very disturbing, left me shaking for 2 weeks. source: www.mufon.com

...And I think what it was ... Is the public ready to know about the UFO and ET phenomena. They wanted to see how we reacted.

... how the president of the United States was murdered by our own people and for three specific reasons that I believe. It was not Oswald. Oswald had nothing to do with it. He was the patsy.

...When I started the speaking tour, it was ‘Let the Truth be Known.' And that's how I feel about it. It should be known.

...Another time, another place, and I may have another encounter.

...All of a sudden ... This girl just had this beautiful real long red hair, and it is straight out, just like one of these things that you hold the electron thing over. It was straight up in the air and she's pointing up and she is screaming bloody murder. Going over the top of us is a craft that's the size of a football field, rectangular in shape, moving at slow speed toward Edwards Air Force Base.

...I turned to him and said, ‘Sir, I suggest you go back to your car and tell whoever told you to come here to stay out of my business, unless they've changed the Constitution and where it says I have the freedom of speech and the liberty and the right to go where I wanna go and do what I wanna do.'

Start of interview

Kerry Cassidy: So we're here with Bill Holden. And he flew on Air Force One with Kennedy.

Bill Holden: Yes.

K: And had conversations with him way back then about your ... well, about the visitation ... in some close way. Is that right?

B: [pause] Somewhat. And I can go ahead and give you a better description of what actually happened. I was stationed in the Wiesbaden Air Force Base in Germany. And this was June of 1963 and President Kennedy was on his way to do the Ich bin ein Berlinerspeech in Berlin.

And I had the pleasure of being one of the stewards on board, and greeted him that morning. And President Kennedy was one of these gentlemen, that he knew everyone, and so when he came onboard he knew who I was and he said, “Good morning, Airman Holden.” And I said, “Good morning, Mr. President.”

And that morning I had picked up a couple newspapers from the local newspapers, English editions, and there had been two UFOs spotted over the Autobahn and clear pictures, right on the front page. And so I had them sitting on the table and I'd asked him if he'd like some juice and coffee. And he said, “Juice would be fine, thank you.”

And by that time he looked down at the paper and saw what was there. And he looked up at me and said, “Well, what do you think?” And then I said, “What do you think, sir?” And he looked back at me and with that just phenomenal smile he said, “I asked you first.”

So I laughed about that and I said, “Well, sir, I'm an old southern boy from down in Georgia and my grandfather was a Methodist preacher there. For us to believe that we are the only intelligent beings in the world is unbelievable. So, yes, I believe that there is such a thing as other human species as well as UFOs.”

K: And what did he say?

B: He says, “You're right, young man.” And I just wish I knew then what I know now to have been able to go ahead and ask the president some of the questions that I have today.

K: Wonderful. So, did you have any other conversations with him as time went on?

B: Not really. As you know, we unfortunately lost him in November of 1963.

K: Right.

B: And the anniversary flight the following year, I was with his brother, Robert, and the Ford family, his wife, and some of the ... two of the children. And we went back and did the anniversary flight to the Ich bin ein Berliner and the actually went ... We had Princess Lee Radziville onboard ... and we had the opportunity to actually go see the Radziville estate in Poland.

K: Uh huh. And did you talk to Robert Kennedy about that?

B: No, I did not.

K: OK. So that was basically, kind of, that experience. So did you have ... I don't know what a person on Air Force One would have, in you position ... Was that a Top Secret clearance or was that any kind of clearance at all?

B: It was known as a Top Hat. It's above a Top Secret because you may hear something in conversation onboard the aircraft and whatever is said there, stays there.

K: OK.

B: And that's our responsibility.

K: OK. So the conversation between you and Kennedy ... You were kind of ... You've spoken about it since at conferences and so on. Was this, you know, a conscious decision of yours to come out, and ... ? Or was it because of that experience, or was it because of other experiences you had that made you come forward?

B: There were many other experiences that occurred as far as ... Three particular in my military career. One happened prior to meeting with President Kennedy and that was in August of 1962. And I was down in Zweibruken in Germany doing a swim meet down there. And it's a Canadian air base there. And I had won my event and I was guest of this Canadian Air Force pilot and his family at his house.

And during the course of the evening he says, “What are your plans tomorrow?” I said, “Well, I planned to ask your daughter if she'd show me around Zweibruken and just kind of tour the city.” He says, “Well, I understand that you're a jet mechanic.” I said, “Yes, I am.” He said, “How would you like to go fly tomorrow?” And I said, “Hmmm. Go fly or go on a tour with your daughter.” I looked at her and said, “I'm sorry. I want to go fly.”

K & B: [laughter]

B: So, we took off that next morning in one of the most phenomenal aircraft that I have ever had the pleasure of being in. And it was the F-104 Starfighter. And it was the fastest known aircraft to man at that time.

K: Uh huh.

B: During the course of our flight that morning, at about 10 o'clock position, I saw this weird-shaped craft to my left. And I said, “Bogey. Ten o'clock.” And “What is it?” He looked over and says, “Don't know. Let's go find out.” He hit the afterburner, which just launches you at mach speed and we took off to this. Now, here we are in the world's fastest aircraft and this aircraft ... this “aircraft” ... disappeared on us, it went away so fast.

K: Uh Huh.

B: Well, this was my actual true introduction to what cover-ups and everything else is about, both in the military and in the public.

K: Uh Huh.

B: And politically. When we got back we were met by a Commander and he said, “Who are you?” I identified myself. And he said, “What you saw today you haven't seen and do not discuss with anybody.”

K: Wow. OK.

B: And they put me in a car and took me back to the Captain's house. The Captain came in, like about four hours later. And he said, “Bill, whatever you do, do NOT say one word about this experience. It will hurt me. It will hurt everything that I'm about.” I said, “Sir, I won't say a word about this.” And I haven't until, you know, after many, many, many years, and out of the service in '77. And I first started speaking in 1995.

K: OK. So after that experience, did you know you had seen ... I don't know ... a UFO? In other words, did you have any idea what it was? Did you get a picture in your mind of what the craft looked like? Did they tell you ...

B: Oh ... It was ...

K: Was it a flying saucer?

B: It was indeed ... And this was right over the Rhine River. [shows drawing of saucer-shaped craft in sky above landscape]

K: So. Wow.

B: And we were like at about ... Oh, I'm gonna say at about 50,000 feet of altitude.

K: So there's no doubt about it. As far as the drawing's concerned, that's a flying saucer, as we colloquials call it.

B: And in the front page of the newspaper on that morning in June of '63, was this ... was something similar type aircraft [shows drawing of two saucer shaped craft with a bubble on top] and this was where ... the two that were seen over the Autobahn.

K: And this is in Germany.

B: Right. This is in Germany. This was outside of Wiesbaden, between Wiesbaden and Frankfurt. On the Autobahn.

K: And they put this in the newspaper?

B: Front page.

K: Wow.

B: Cover.

K: Very interesting.

B: Right.

K: So the Germans at that point were not ... I mean, I don't know what the article said, but they were not really keeping this a secret from the people at that point.

B: ... That's the uniqueness about the Europeans, the Mexicans, and other locations in the world.

K: Uh huh.

B: They have no problem in showing actual pictures of UFOs and experiences and telling about experiences. And it's front page. It's not page 96 ...

K: [laughs]

B: ... in the last section.

K: Yeah. It's not completely forbidden, then. And it's not a laughing matter necessarily, either.

B: Right.

K: Well that's ... that's great. So, moving forward in time, your next experience in the military. What would that be?

B: That would the summer of 1966, and I was stationed in Colorado Springs at Peterson Field. [ADC Command Aircrew, SAMS (Special Air Missions)]

K: OK.

B: And I was flying for the ADC [Air Defense Command] Commander and I was also providing support for the Air Force Academy.

K: So when you say that you were “flying” ... were you operating the aircraft? Or were you ...?

B: I wasn't a pilot. No.

K: You were ...

B: I was a Loadmaster and it was Special Air Missions and flight steward.

K: OK.

B: And so we took care of special missions that were either with high ranking officials, international dignitaries, or special missions that we were going on, such as this one. And we were taken into ... in fact I was taken in privately ... into a room and I met with an Air Force Lt. Colonel.

And at that point, he said, “This is a voluntary mission.” And I said, “Sir, I take every mission as a mission. You don't have to ask me would I like to go. You tell me, I'll go.” And so he went ahead and he had me sign a document that was a 20-year non-disclosure agreement, with full penalties, all the way up to going to prison and losing all rights.

K: And this was in what year?

B: 1966. It was the summer of '66.

K: OK.

B: And what he indicated was that I was going to be flying back to Andrews Air Force Base and I was going to be picking up high ranking military officials and high ranking scientific individuals. OK? So I agreed to everything and went ahead and planned the mission, got all the food and everything that would be required on the trip. Flew into Andrews Air Force Base. Spent the night. The next morning we loaded up early. And there was one Brigadier General. There were a couple of Colonels. And then the rest of the entourage were high ranking civilian engineers and scientists.

K: And did you know the names of these people?

B: No. No, I did not.

K: OK.

B: ... just. It wasn't something ...

K: Did you recognize them?

B: No, I did not.

K: OK.

B: From there we went to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. We landed there and they went to what was called “the blue hanger.” Now, a lot of people know what the blue hanger is about. And it was where a lot of the reverse-engineering was being done on UFOs that were found in the late '40s that had crashed. There were...

K: Are you saying that you knew this at the time when ... In other words, when you were told that you were going to the blue hanger, it was general knowledge among the people that you worked with that that's what that was?

B: No, there was only a special few that knew what the blue hanger was about.

K: But you knew at the time?

B: I did not.

K: Oh ...

B: I learned later.

K: I see.

B: So... It was really unique. So from there we flew to Colorado Springs and where our base was and they went up to the Air Force Academy. They went up to Cheyenne Mountain, which was NORAD headquarters and where the Cheyenne Mountain complex and where all the early warning system and headquarters as far as for missions there. And then from there, we left and flew to White Sands in New Mexico. And we landed and all of us were put on a bus and to this day I still do not understand why we went along. OK?

K: So normally you would stay with the aircraft.

B: We would have stayed with the aircraft and stayed on the base.

K: OK.

B: This has happened both times that we, as an entire entourage, we were taken with the group. So anyway, we got on to a bus. The bus was blacked out in the area that we were sitting in. And basically this gentleman in - not in an Air Force uniform but in a khaki colored - with a special emblem (and I can't remember the emblem) on the left sleeve. And they were armed and they had a clipboard and each one of us had to show our military ID. And then we were checked off the list and then we were told to go ahead and sit down.

We traveled probably for about 45 minutes to an hour and then.... I was right up front and off to the right front seat there, so I could kind of see through to where the driver was and through the window there. But as far as the.... When we got there, we were stopped and I could see, like walls of a mountain, on the left side by the driver. And then a guard rail which was down. And then this guy got on board with another gentleman and walked through with a clipboard. And again all of us had to show our ID.

From that point we were driven on in and we stopped at this ... There was a line shack out there. We got off the bus and the entourage was escorted over to where there was a UFO on the ground. There were, like, two Quonset huts and another building, a runway, and we were inside a box canyon. And then ... from what I could see ... We weren't able to get right up with the entourage. The crew was held back. But basically what I was able to see was that there were two UFOs, in one-piece flight suits. They were probably about 5 feet tall, in coming to the other people around them.

K: OK. You mean there was one UFO and there were two extraterrestrials?

B: ETs. Correct.

K: OK. And they were wearing one-piece suits?

B: One-piece suits, light aluminum colored.

K: OK.

B: OK? Their skin was a pale color and as what is typified or called a Grayling is what they looked like.

K: OK.

B: The larger head, the large black eyes, small mouth, small nose, and ...

K: Is this what they would look like, or not?

[Bill picks up a brown sculpted head, a classic representation of a Gray.]

B: Surprisingly very much so, but the nose is more protruding here and the lips are fuller.

K: OK.

B: And then the other thing that (and there's an amazing story behind this piece ...), but as far as the back ... it's is very true to what the Graylings were like.

K: Hmm.

B: They have a musculature across the back like this. [runs fingers over back head of the sculpture]

K: OK.

B: And the... but very thin lips across here [touching mouth of sculpture]. Their arms ... very thin and the hands were long and thin. Now, I've been asked many times if there were four fingers or five fingers and I have to be absolutely honest, I've never known that. I never knew to look for that, didn't think about it. OK?

K: OK. So are you still on the bus at this time, or are you out ...

B: No, we're outside.

K: OK. But you're back from the group ...

B: We're back from the group.

K: But you can still see.

B: We could see. Yes.

K: OK. And was there any verbal introduction, or preamble to what you saw?

B: Not at all. Where we were put on this was the fact that... The way it went, we were not allowed to ever discuss the mission with any of the participants, OK? And basically [shows sketch of location, showing placement of buildings, craft, and people] when the crew was around, there was no conversation going on about what as going on at the site.

K: Were you shocked?

B: ... [thoughtful pause, big smile] Excited. Not shocked.

K: Really.

B: Excited.

K: OK.

B: Yeah.

K: Did any of the aliens exchange eye contact ... what you would consider to be eye contact with you?

B: No. Too far away.

K: Uh huh.

B: OK? But basically they were very, as I said, they were real thin, and long arms, long hands, longer neck... thin, and their heads were larger.

K: Uh huh. About how tall?

B: About five feet tall. OK?

K: OK.

B: But the thing that I saw was when they moved, they were very graceful.

K: Really?

B: Very graceful in their movement.

K: OK.

B: But that was ... that was a very unique ...

K: Did you sign a non-disclosure during that time? Was there non-disclosure within a certain length of time?

B: Twenty years.

K: Oh, that was the 20-year one.

B: Right.

K: OK.

B: OK?

K: OK. So we're past that time. You got past that time and you started speaking out. So this is another incident. Did anything else happen during that time?

B: Yes. Now, in the fall I was brought back in and briefed again by the same Lt. Colonel. And he said same drill, same scenario, sign the form. I did. And anyway, ended up back in Andrews Air Force Base and this time I'm expecting to see the same people again. [shakes head No] Totally, totally different crew. There's an Admiral. There's a Captain, which is the equivalent of full Colonel in the Air Force. This was basically an all-Navy group with, again, high ranking civilian engineers and scientists but none of the same crew. Totally different.

K: Hmm.

B: But, here again, we flew to Wright-Patterson. Here again they went to the blue hanger. We flew to Colorado Springs and they, again, went up into Cheyenne Mountain. And from there we went to Los Angeles and took off the next morning and we flew to Hawaii, landed at Hickham Air Force Base [Oahu] and we were told, “Have the airplane ready, we're leaving at midnight.” So we got everything ready, got some rest, back at the airplane, took off at midnight. We flew for somewhere around 3 hours and 45 minutes, to maybe 4 hours.

And we were flying in a C118, or what is the equivalent of a DC6. OK? A four-engine, propeller aircraft. And we landed. And I said, “Guys, we're back in Hawaii.” And they said, “What do you mean?” and I said, “There is nowhere out there that we can go fly for 3 hours, 45 minutes - 4 hours and land.” OK? Physically impossible in this airplane. I said, “Johnson Island is five and a half hours. Guam is much more. So. No, we're back in Hawaii somewhere.”

So, sure enough, again (which I still do not understand) we were all taken together. And we went out to ... We had breakfast and then we went out to the site that's right by the ocean on the west side (because the sun was coming up behind us) and we're looking to the west. And it's an observation deck and all of us are standing there.

And a little after 7 in the morning, about this time, this craft comes out of the water, from our left to our right, just goes SHEWWW [makes sound of fast movement] just like this, and then stops out there in front of us. Now, here again ... double elliptical saucer-shaped craft, but at the mid-beam on this there's a light going back and forth, like this [indicates left/right, back and forth movement] at the mid-beam on it.

K: OK.

B: OK? Pretty much equal, as far as in design, top and bottom. Double elliptical. Now, it sits out there and then almost instantaneously disappears. So everybody's excited about what they're seeing and everything. And about this time somebody yells, “It's back!” And it's now a little bit closer, about a hundred yards out, maybe 100, 200 feet off the water, and it then demonstrates ... as far as going up and down, side to side, cants left and right, and cants at an angle and goes right back into the water. Now, when he goes into the water – and when he came out of the water – there was no explosion or implosion as it went back in. And ...

K: So what was the size of this vehicle? Could you estimate?

B: Oh ... I'm gonna ... Hundred yards out, I'm gonna have to guess that this craft was somewhere around (and I'm guessing), I'm saying probably 50 to 60 feet overall length.

K: OK.

B: OK?

K: So it wasn't huge.

B: No. But what was amazing about this ... I had the opportunity later on to be able to meet the astronaut Gordon Cooper. And I had asked him about it and he said, “Bill, it's ... when you have electromagnetic propulsion there's a force field around it. It's like that craft is inside a sandwich, so that when it comes out of it and when it goes back in you're not gonna see the explosion or the implosion.” So that was one of the explanations I was trying to find out.

K: Now, was it your understanding that that was flown by extraterrestrial beings? Or was that one of ours?

B: My understanding was that it was ETs, still, at the time. Today... we have our own.

K: So it could have been one of ours.

B: I would say that it was probably a combination.

K: Oh really?

B: Yeah. In '66 it was all a matter of the evolvement that's been coming along all the way through. Gordon Cooper talks about the time that he was stationed out at Muroc, which is now Edwards Air Force Base. He was a Major at the time. And one actually landed and his crew was out there filming, brake testing and everything, with one of the craft. And they actually caught this craft landing and the door opening and closing, and then taking back off again.

K: So at this point you've seen ... You know, you've had some pretty amazing experiences, right?

B: Yes.

K: And in a certain sense ... You signed NDAs, but you didn't ... Did you have what was it considered to be a Top Secret or Beyond, or did this Top Hat clearance go across the board for you at this time?

B: No. That was only during presidential, and any time ... And that's one of the things ... When you're in presidential service and someone says they're flying on Air Force One, that is any aircraft that the president is actually flying on. It can be a helicopter, or it can be the Spirit of America which is 2600 [Spirit of America 2600: a Boeing 707, President Kennedy's Plane] ... So, it's ...

K: So, OK. So how, just briefly, could you explain to us ... I mean, you have to be highly, highly trusted, I imagine, to have the job that you had. Is this not true?

B: It required a full EBI, Extensive Background Investigation, to be on presidential air crew. It also required, as far as that for Top Secret. Now, any of the missions that I flew after the presidential, all the way through 1974, when I was stationed in Panama, I had a Top Secret clearance.

K: OK. So, were you a member of a certain armed forces?

B: Air Force.

K: Air Force.

B: Right.

K: And what was your title, your professional title under those circumstances?

B: I was a Loadmaster and Flight Steward, Special Air Missions.

K: That's what it's called ...

B: Right.

K: That was your title.

B: Right.

K: And did you change rank during that time?

B: I did. I went from Airman 2nd Class up to Staff Sergeant, on my last ... as far as my last encounter.

K: OK. And ... now, have you told us everything that happened to you in the military? Or do you have another one?

B: We have one more.

K: One more. OK. Because what I would like to know, after you tell me this, is whether or not you feel that you have ever been called in for psych evaluation [Bill starts laughing] or have been, you know, to your knowledge, mind-controlled or suddenly have been told to go see the doctor on a periodic, you know, admission.

B: Never.

K: Never. OK.

B: [shakes head No] Never.

K: OK. That's interesting.

B: In fact I had a clean bill of health when I left the Air Force.

K: OK.

B: Summer of 1971, I'm stationed at Patrick Air Force Base, Coco Beach, Florida. And I'm ... I always love to go down to the Indian River, and go fishing, and everything. So, it was a Friday afternoon and I was going down, and putting my gear out and everything. And threw my line out and just kind of stepped back ... And I'd like to preface this statement this way: I don't smoke. I don't drink. Never done drugs. [K laughs] And I'm the grandson of a Methodist preacher.

K: OK.

B: So I wasn't having my beer, I didn't have anything special as far as to, you know, put me out, but I kind of leaned back against the palm and the next thing I know, I'm on a pedestal table. I'm inside a craft. I'm looking up at a domed ceiling. I don't see any light fixtures. And I have three ETs to my left-hand side, two short, one taller. And I'm guessing about five feet tall and maybe three and a half to four feet tall. To my left.

K: Hmm.

B: And the only marking in the room is up on the ceiling is this brilliant, brilliant, bright blue placard with three gold stars on it. OK? Now ... Conversation, as far as that I'm going through is all telepathic and basically (this has happened to me twice now): Tell them to stop destroying Mother Earth. Tell them to learn to love one another. And thirdly, to take their mental and heart harmonics to a higher level. And it's been the same message to me both times.

K: OK. Were you afraid?

B: Surprisingly not. Surprisingly not.

K: Well you'd had more exposure before that encounter than most people.

B: Well, also, even the very first one, I wasn't afraid. I was excited, as I have been with all of these. And ...

K: So it didn't shock you and put you into any kind of, you know, altered state or, you know, conundrum, about your religious beliefs versus what you were seeing, and all that kind of thing? [Bill shakes head No]. You didn't have that kind of, sort of a break in your conscious mind ...

B: Not at all. Not at all. And the thing that I found through all of my experiences is that I've had a very open mind. I've been one that has been willing to learn and to share these experiences with others. Because when I started the speaking tour it was “Let the Truth be Known.” And that's how I feel about it. It should be known. And the thing that I had out of this experience was the fact that the ... I found an implant in my left arm [shows inside of left elbow] about right here.

K: Uh huh.

B: It's about ... not quite an inch long and about 3/8 of an inch wide.

K: OK.

B: You see where I'm pushing it up?

K: OK. So it's still there.

B: Yes. It's still there.

K: You never had it removed.

B: No. And the thing that ... I've been asked, “Why haven't you had that taken out?” I said, “I consider it a blessing that I have had these opportunities to be able to experience the UFO and the ET phenomena that I have seen. And in so doing, they felt it important enough that whatever this device is, that it is following me, OK? So maybe there is another time, another place, that I may have another encounter.”

K: Uh huh.

B: And it's like the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Richard Dreyfuss is there and you know all the experiences that he goes through. You know all the disbelief and everything that they talked about, but he says, “Let me go!” And that's what I've always said, “Beam me up, Scotty.”

[B & K laughing]

K: Oh, OK. OK.

B: So, I definitely don't have a problem with that.

K: Wonderful. OK. So, you've had these experiences in the military. Now, I'm assuming you've also had some civilian experiences ... just because of the way you're talking.

B: Yes.

K: OK. But, at this point, you left the military. Voluntarily?

B: No quite. We have one more ... that did not involve UFO and ET phenomena. But, while I was stationed in Panama at Howard Air Force Base in Southern Command, in the summer of 1973 we were called in, we got a briefing that we were going to be taking a civilian filming crew ... Because one of the astronauts, as they were returning, saw these hieroglyphics on the plains in Peru.

K: Uh huh.

B: So they wanted somebody to go up there and actually film them ... the Nazca Plain. And it's as the astronauts were returning that they saw this and they of course called it in and talked about it and in their debriefing they saw this. They saw this and they explained about it and took pictures of it. So, anyway, what they did was we went out with that crew and we had the pleasure of actually walking the Nazca Plain, physically being in the trench, 18 to 24 inches deep and seeing this phenomenal [shows still black and white shot of monkey glyph from Nazca Plain, then color shot of large-headed humanoid figure etched into vertical landscape] creation that they had done. And then also in this tour we were at Machu Picchu, Cuzco. We saw drawings on the walls of helmeted figures, craft, and stuff like this, that were dated aeons ago.

K: And this was part of your military duty?

B: Right.

K: Sounds like, you know, that you couldn't pay to get a better ...

B: [laughs] This was phenomenal.

K: [laughs]

B: Phenomenal. And then in Lima we were taken into this building. It was maybe 5,000 - 7,500 square feet in size. And on the floor, and on shelving and everything, were ... There were skeletons that were dated 20,000, 25,000 years ago. Now, you asked about religious beliefs and everything else. This is where you get into where the Bible, and we're talking about being taught about the Bible, and 6,000 years is what that Bible talks about.

OK. It talks about before Christ and when Christ comes and the 2,000 years after to where we are today. The Greeks are the only one that feel that there's another 1,000 years and it talks about in Genesis, “in the beginning,” “and man created .... And God created man,” and as far as Adam and Eve and all the evolution. So basically this raised a lot of questions, especially being raised as a grandson of a Methodist preacher and down in south Georgia, and looking at things.

K: You bet.

B: So I turned around and I looked at it and I wasn't disturbed by it. What I looked at was this ... is that the Bible ... and if I take it phonetically, it's “Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth.” It tells us how to live, how to get along with each other. It's a chronological history of our mankind, all the way through to where we are today. That's what it's about. It's how we're supposed to live. It's how we're supposed to love each other and take care of one another. Not all the war and everything else that's going on.

Now, so here I'm looking at remains that are dated older. What have been found today now? We've found remains that are 80,000, 100,000 years old. We know about the dinosaurs being here millions, billions of years ago. OK? So how does it say as far as today, the Earth? OK? Many, many, many millions of years old. We've only been here for “this” period of time [holds his hands not very far apart]. All these other civilizations have been here before us.

K: In this sense, were you putting together in your own mind, with your own teachings that you got from, you know, your own religious background and so on, with what you have been shown ... and did you just create some sort of a bridge between them that made sense to you. And then I am assuming that you did some research since then ... so that this all comes together in a package. But at the time, were you given, you know, by the military for example, any instructions, or any ... Or in other words, did they say ... we were created by ETs, and so on and so forth?

B: No.

K: They didn't. They never, absolutely ...

B: No.

K: So when you showed .... When you were on these tours you were with others, right?

B: Right.

K: And did you talk to these other people?

B: I talked within my own crew.

K: OK.

B: Yes.

K: And what was the general consensus at that point? Were people blown away? Were they like you and relatively OK about everything? Was there a wide variance in reactions?

B: As anytime you get a group of people together, there's different opinions. OK? But what I found was that I had a spiritual feeling about it. I felt that there was a reason I shared that experience, that I was exposed to that experience. I still feel that today.

K: OK. But did you feel that the other people there were reacting ... In other words, were they buttoned down and careful not to show too much reaction because they were part of the group doing this sort of thing?

B: There was nothing that was ... “Oh my god!” Nothing like that.

K: They weren't falling over themselves in shock ...

B: No. No.

K: So they were on some level with you as being ...

B: It was an experience ... Here's what happened ... In the know ...

[overlapping voices]

B: Exactly.

K: OK. So you were taken here, you were shown around on this tour and nobody explained to you, “Hey, you're going to be going on a tour that's going to change your life,” or anything like that?

B: No. In fact, we were never told ... We were never told what the mission was about. We were just told that the mission was classified and as far as we had to sign the Non-disclosures.

K: Do you feel you were test subjects?

B: [broad smile] I don't know. I feel ... Here's what I think. I think that, back in the time ... When was the first time that we supposedly found out about UFOs in the United States? When?

K: Well, OK. 1947. Roswell was the general ...

B: Roswell was the notorious ...

K: But they were here before that.

B: Oh, yes. OK. Now here's the thing that happened. What was causing the crashes - because there was more than one. There were many crashes in the Four Corners. And what had happened was, up in the northwest corner of New Mexico, was a huge radar dome that was put up. And it was basically to protect the southwest corridor and to be early warning. Well, what happened was that every time that turned on, and as the UFOs flew through it, they were all of a sudden thrown kittywampus and everything and thrown out of control.

K: When was that built? Do you know?

B: That was built in probably the mid ‘40s ... '44, '45 ... probably after Pearl Harbor.

K: I see.

B: Yep.

K: OK. Well I understand that it is said that radar took down those UFOs.

B: It did.

K: OK. Did you have any exposure to actual crash teams? Did you go out on crash teams at all?

B: No. I was not, OK? In ...

K: Did you share stories with other people in the military who were?

B: No.

K: Have you talked to Clifford Stone, for example?

B: Ah ... probably at the conference, OK?

K: Not inside the military?

B: No. I was long gone out of the military before I ever spoke one word. It was long past my 20 years.

K: OK. So tell us why you came forward.

B: Ah .... I felt that it was important that the world know that UFOs and ETs are true. They are real.

K: So was there an incident ...

B: You asked the question, though. I want to go back to it.

K: All right.

B: Because you asked, were we a test. OK?

K: Uh huh.

B: You know what I think? I think that I can look back on that now, and the bases ... Because I've always been trying to figure out why were we taken along on both instances. And I think what it was ... Is the public ready to know about UFO and ET phenomena? They wanted to see how we reacted.

K: Well, you reacted very well. Why haven't they come forward? You know what I'm saying?

B: [sighs] Because that was one of the things that came out in the 50s, OK? And that's why...

K: But this was after the 50s. This is after Project Blue Book. They're still testing. They're still trying to find out. You had a great reaction. I don't know about your other, you know, fellow crewmen, so to speak. Any ideas why, since then?

B: Can we hold that question?

K: Sure.

B: Because if we can I want to walk you up to this ... Because in 1996 and 1997 I'll have your answer.

K: OK.

B: OK?

K: OK. So you're out of the military.

B: 1977. In 1978 I'm living in California and I'm up at Lancaster and I'm invited to go out for a tailgate party and we're going out to a place called Mars Hill which is out in the Mojave Desert, which is close to Edwards Air Force Base. And they said if you want to see crazy things at night you've gotta go here.

So we're all out here and we're having a barbecue and we're watching things. And about this time we had been commenting on some of the light formations and everything, the way the planes ... the craft were flying around and we're saying that's nothing that we made that can do that. And we're laughing about that.

And then all of a sudden this girl has just this beautiful real long red hair and it is straight out, like one of these things that you hold the electron thing over. It is straight up in the air and she is pointing up and she is screaming bloody murder. Going over the top of us is a craft that is the size of a football field, rectangular in shape, moving at slow speed toward Edwards Air Force Base, OK?

K: Incredible.

B: We bailed. We get out of there so fast it's not even funny, OK?

K: Did you feel the electromagnetics on yourself?

B: Did not. But the next morning I got up and I go into shave and I'm “Whoa!” I am like I have a big sunburn, anywhere there was exposed on me was just like a sunburn.

K: So you were living Close Encounters of the Third Kind. And you ARE Richard Dreyfuss.

[laughter]

K: Right?

B: What happened was that we of course told everybody, OK, and so of course I went down to my doctor and everything and he says ... And he checked as far as to make sure there wasn't any radiation. There was no encounter as far as radiation goes. And he said it looks like there's no skin damage, but where you were exposed give it a week and see if goes away. And sure enough, a week later everything is back to normal. But anywhere that was exposed it was just better than burnt red.

K: OK. Did you have a sense that that was one of ours or that was ...

B: Definitely not ours.

K: Uh huh.

B: Mothership, OK? And... President Eisenhower, in 1953 or '54, one of the two years, he's president-elect and he's out at... I believe he was out in Palm Springs and he was getting ready to play golf and all of a sudden he said, “I've got a toothache. I need to go see the dentist.” Now, instead of going like about 30 miles over to Riverside and to the Air Force base there and going to see the dentist there, he goes all the way to Edwards Air Force Base.

Now, history says that this is where he met the ETs and that an agreement was signed between the US and the ETs. And as far as that a mothership was seen coming in, there were a number of UFOs coming in, and that the base was literally shut down for 3 days. I have been able to find that the base was shut down for 3 days. I've been able to find in civilian records, newspaper accounts, and everything else, as far as those facts were validated.

K: OK.

B: I have never been able to find the base historian. I cannot find out if he's living or dead. He disappeared. I can't find him. Because there's a lot of information that's somewhere, OK?

K: OK

B: Now, from that point was where a number of experimentations took place and when you hear about the 10,000 cattle that were massacred, OK? And nobody could explain how all these different things happened to them, OK? Well, what happened was that it was laser testing, and it was everything from being mounted on helicopters, on jeeps, on trucks, on tanks and backpacks. And it was the only way they could test it without testing it on human beings. And that's what that was about.

When we get into where we were talking about reverse engineering on the craft that was brought in from the '47 crash at Roswell and other locations, this is where we get into the transistors. This is where we get into, ah ... electromagnetic propulsion.

K: But for our purposes, you've now told us about a civilian sighting that you had that were pretty outrageous.

B: Right.

K: Now, these people, were they friends of yours, were they also in the military, were they ex-military ...

B: No. This is local friends in the area.

K: And they were not military.

B: No, not at all.

K: You did not know them in the military.

B: No.

K: OK. So at this point you're pretty much an old hand at this. Right? I mean, for all intents and purposes, you've been around. So now, have you had other experiences since then?

B: Yes.

K: OK. [laughs] Do you want to tell us what those are?

B: OK. In the fall of 1991 I'm living in Silver Lakes in Helendale, California. And I'm driving home. And it's in the evening. It's a clear, clear night. And as far as there's no clouds that I can see as far as, until I turn off going into Silver Lakes off of old Route 66 between Victorville and Barstow, about half way. As I'm turning in I see this one little cloud across here [draws horizontally in air in front of him] and I see these large, kind of orange-colored orbs, not coming down from them, but going up into the clouds, OK? So I park and I watch this.

K: Uh huh.

B: Now I'm trying to judge how big these orbs are. Because I'm sitting in the car and I'm about a half a mile away from the site, and it's about the size of my thumb at that point. So, figure half a mile away the size of my thumb, how big is this orb? It's pretty big.

K: Right.

B: So, anyway, I see that. Now, in ...

K: So nothing happened.

B: Nothing happened. I just ...

K: No missing time ...

B: No missing time. I didn't go away. Just here it is. Now in 1993 I'm still living there and I'm leaving with my wife to go into Victorville to go out for a night's entertainment and everything. And I'm pulling out the project and all of a sudden I see this huge bright light in the sky and I'm thinking, “Oh my god, there's a plane exploded, or missile exploded,” and everything, whatever. But there's a huge light. And all of a sudden ... it doesn't go away ... it starts pulsing,. This light is going in and out like this [moves hands together and apart, back and forth]. And then so I take off and go on the Helendale Road, going out toward 395. And the thing is starting to move to the west. And I'm speeding up to 100 miles an hour and it's pulling away from me. And so it starts going like his [moves hand in zigzag through air] and it's getting faster and all of a sudden it just goes SHWWWW [makes sound of quick acceleration] just like that, and it's gone. Now ...

K: Your wife saw this at the same time?

B: Right. Now, at that point I called the sheriff's department. I called the FAA. I called Vandenberg, because Vandenberg is where they had the missile shoots and stuff like that. Vandenberg said there was no missile shoot. And it went on as far ... You know, I contacted everybody I could. And ...

K: Did any ot them say that they'd seen anything that had shown up on radar? That sort of thing?

B: [shakes head No] No. But as far as ... In the newspaper the next day they talked about.

K: OK.

B: They talked about the bright lights and everything. So...

K: So at this point had you started going to conferences and speaking out?

B: Interesting you should ask that. I had not even thought about talking about this.

K: OK.

B: OK? Till 1995 I get invited to a classified conference. They even change my name, give me tickets, different identification, and I fly into northern California and I'm taken to a place called the Alisal Ranch [Santa Ynez Valley, CA]. And it's a conference that later you'll find out was put on by the Rockefeller Foundation. Bob Dean was there.

K: Really?

B: Two KGB officers were there. There was a Russian pilot there, astronaut. There was the Lt. Colonel that his father owned the ranch in Roswell that found the stuff ... that kept some of the stuff and buried it. So that was brought out at the conference.

K: OK.

B: And when they brought out this one piece that had come off the craft ... It was like an I-beam, a miniature I-beam, very lightweight [measures size with fingers about 2” apart], and it had hieroglyphics on it. And we're talking about it and I said, “This looks familiar. There's something about this.” And sure enough, two of the characters matched the Phoenician Sanskrit. OK?

K: OK. That's an interesting link.

B: That was ... That was an interesting link that we looked at there. Uh ...

K: You didn't call up Zecharia Sitchin or anything to tell him what you'd seen, huh?

B: No, and in fact I don't know whether Zecharia was there or not. We had one of our own astronauts there. We had two Naval officers there. We had... Air Force officers there and a number of industrialists. But this thing was treated so classified. I thought that the president was going to be there. That's how much this was talked about.

K: OK. Well, so were there any Congress people there?

B: I don't know.

K: So, why do you think you were invited to this classified gathering? I mean, you'd already been in the know, you'd already been in the military. What was the purpose?

B: I think somebody knew that I had had some of these experiences ... from the military.

K: OK.

B: Because I hadn't gone public.

K: Right. Had you talked on the phone about this?

B: Nope.

K: What about surveillance? Do you think they had an eye on you ... electronically?

B: Not till later.

K: OK. Computers. Were they around in '95? I know they were around then.

B: No. I wasn't doing anything.

K: Nothing on computers.

B: No.

K: What was your civilian job at that point?

B: I worked for myself.

K: As?

B: I was a consultant. I was in real estate.

K: Uh huh.

B: But here's what was interesting. Is because in 1996 I went out and with a couple of friends drove around the Skunkworks, the Lockheed Skunkworks just outside of Helendale, two miles square.

K: Right.

B: And everybody talked about that ... “Oh it's just a radar testing facility,” and like that. And I said, “No, it's not.” There's something about this. And so I drove all the way around it and then we went into this one area. And outside the fence I found this rock [shows rock divided by straight line into brown and black coloring] and a bunch of other rocks that had been burnt with high temperatures. And you can see where this part right here, OK, you can see how that was in the dirt. [turns rock upside-down] Now picture this being in the dirt. And that's what as exposed and that's how much heat was on this rock. And this was in the mud. So... And this is in a circle that's about 36 feet in diameter, OK? And I have a picture I can show you where this little girl picking this rock up out of the mud, OK. And then these are around it. And then there were alkali deposits at six ... six or eight different points in the circle that were about this big around [holds arms out beyond body, curving to demonstrate a circle], and that if you actually stepped onto it, you would have gone down in it maybe about 18, 24, inches. It was like the ground was all broken loose right there. And so that was found right there by the site.

K: Uh huh.

B: Now, what was interesting about this was that this picture right here says: Trespass, Loitering forbidden by law. Trespassers are subject to prosecution. Private Property. No trespass. Lockheed Corporation. [shows picture of sign] Now, this is all the way around the complex that these signs are posted. Now we're driving around and this jeep pulls up there and it's got the armed security officers on it telling us to get out of there. And I said, “I'm on the civilian side and you're on that side. You can't tell me what to do.” So what was interesting about this was this. [shows pictures of landscape with antenna visible]. This is an antenna that's out there by the runway. Now, I called it a runway. [shows picture of round areas in ground] Now, this is the alkali that I'm talking about. And these deposits were like six spots around the circle.

K: OK

B: And as far as the hole that I was talking about. [shows picture of area] Because I stepped into this and this is how I knew that anywhere that kind of alkali are was that the ground underneath it had been disturbed.

K OK. You decided, somehow, some way, to come forward, OK?

B: Following ... following the conference at the Alisal Ranch was when I received a personal invite to go to Mesquite and talk at the international conference, the UFO conference.

K: So, OK, but did you know someone there? Why did they know to contact you?

B: They were at the Alisal conference. And this individual that puts on the conferences was ...

K: Really?

B: ... was there.

K: ... was one of the people there.

B: ... was one of the people there.

K: Very interesting.

[Bill Ryan, off screen]: Bob Brown.

B: Bob Brown. Yeah.

K: Wow. So Bob Brown is certainly in the know at this point.

B: Right. And so he had invited me to come to this conference. That was my introduction to public speaking, and going out and talking about UFO and ET phenomena, “Let the Truth be Known.”

K: OK. But did you at that point need convincing? Because Bob Brown ... You're at this ranch, you're talking to all these people. You meet Bob Dean. I assume you guys shared stories.

B: Oh, we knew each other from when we were stationed in Europe.

K: Oh really? Ah.

B: Because I was flying for General Gabriel Disoway and he was working ... He was the Command Sergeant Major for the Commander of USAMRID. OK?

K: OK. Well we just did an interview with him, so...

B: Oh, Bob is ... how is he doing?

K: He's wonderful. He's a beautiful man.

B: Please tell him I said hello, because I've lost contact with him.

[Bill Ryan, offscreen]: Would you like us to priovide you with his details?

B: Oh, I would love to know how to get ahold of him again.

K: Have you had any kind of threats ...?

B: One time only. I had come back from my, uh ... talk in San Diego and this was in 1996 I believe. It was either '96 or '97, and I'm living in Victorville. It had to be '97 because I'm living in Victorville. And, uh ... this black Ford pulls up in front. This guy about six feet two, all black, gets out of the car, comes up to the door, and I open the door and he says, “Mr. Holden?” and I said, “Yes.” And he said, “I highly suggest and recommend that you change your public speaking subject.”

I said, “Do you have a warrant for my arrest, or a presidential order, or something telling me that I can't speak publicly any more?” “No.” I said, “Sir, then I suggest you go back to your car and tell whoever told you to come here to stay out of my business unless they've changed the Constitution where it says I have the freedom of speech and the liberty and the right to go where I wanna go and do what I wanna do. OK?”

And he took a step toward me and at that time I pulled out something from behind my back and I said, “You have about 3 seconds to get to your car, and I'm serious.” So he turned around and I've never heard anything since then. But I have openly ... openly ... spoken about this and will continue to do so and anyone that would like to have me as a speaker, it's just a matter of contacting me. You can post my email and phone number and be able to do that.

K: OK. Well you're a brave man. Obviously they were not able to intimidate you. Have you ever talked to other presidents besides Kennedy?

B: No. I mean, I served with President Kennedy, President Johnson, President Nixon.

K: And neither Johnson, nor Nixon, you had no reason to talk ...

B: Never. Johnson was a horse's butt. And I was only with Nixon on the preflight to his China trip and then that was it. And I was out of the presidential.

K: OK. Do you tend to believe that Kennedy was murdered by, uh ... conspiracy?

B: I ... I will, uh, put it this way. Our president of this United States was murdered by our own people and for three specific reasons that I believe. It was not Oswald. Oswald had nothing to do with it. He was the patsy.

K: Right. And three reasons which were?

B: I'd rather hold that.

K: OK.

B: OK? I have an interview that I did with Colonel Gordon Cooper, USAF, NASA astronaut back on October the 22nd of '96. We had become very near, near friends. He was stationed, as an astronaut down in Cocoa Beach and I was stationed at Patrick. And my last mission was the Apollo 13 mission.

K: Really.

B: And I as working there, working with Special Air Missions, and also special events whenever they were doing a launch, and helping dignitaries.

K: Wonderful. Well ... So, he was a very interesting man.

B: Wonderful, wonderful man.

K: OK.

B: In 1997. This was November the 12th, of 1997. [holds up newspaper showing an ET wearing a Scottish bonnet] If you'll look up in the upper lefthand corner of the newspaper... And this is the Evening Gazette. This is the number one newspaper in the northwest of England. And this was talking about the conference. Now anywhere else in the United States they would never do a front page, even talk about UFOs, let alone give you a full page article. [shows article]

K: So this is in England.

B: This was in England in November of 1997.

K: And you went to speak, I'm assuming, as part of a conference? Or something else?

B: It was to speak in a number of locations. One was .... I spoke in Manchester. I spoke in Lytham St. Anne's, Blackpool, at Cardiff by the Sea in Wales, and then over in Dublin, Ireland.

K: OK. But why did they invite you?

B: Because they wanted the latest. At that time I was one of the latest subjects talking about UFO and ET phenomena.

K: I see. OK.

B: So ...

K: So they've got a picture there of you and your ... the carving or mask, whatever you want to call this. [film zooms in on Grey head sculpture]

B: OK. Now, the interesting story of our friend. This is Al the Alien and I was at, of all things, the state fair in Victorville and up on a shelf there were three of these heads. Now, one thing was that, upon looking at this, I found it to be rather unique that it was very close to what a true GrAyling was. So that whoever had made this head knew what he was doing. And what told me that was the fact that the musculature across the back of the skull was very true, and ...

K: OK but I'm going to interrupt you here because you told us that you've seen Grays ...

B: Yes

K: ... on a few occasions.

B: Yes.

K: But did you actually see the back of their head?

B: Yes

K: Or how do you know this?

B: Yes.

K: Oh, you did.

B: Yes. And that's why I said that the thing that's wrong about this was that the nose is too large. It was just a very small protrusion. And the mouth ...You don't have, really lips, but just a straight line, almost a straight line across.

K: OK.

B: .. And everything. But this was very unique. And somewhere on here, it may have worn off now. No. It says that this was done by L. Carr (C-a-r-r) was who did this.

K: Uh huh.

B: So ... very interesting.

K: Now do you feel like there is more to the story than what you've told us here? In other words ...

B: There's a lot more.

K: OK. And this is because you have personal experience with other things that you haven't brought up here? Or because you've done research?

B: Research. Research and talking to very knowledge people, engineers that are ... have been out, worked at Area 51, people who have worked in the tunnels... Huge tunnel system in the United States.

K: OK. And is this tunnel system set up, do you think, for anything approaching 2012, or do you think that these are areas where they simply have underground bases, that are doing reverse engineering, housing various ETs...

B: I think all of the above.

Pilots spot 'UFOs' near the Channel Islands

Two airline pilots said they witnessed UFOs off the coast of Alderney on Monday.

Ray Bowyer, 50, a captain with Aurigny Air Services, said that during his flight from Southampton, England, at 3 p.m., he saw a bright-yellow light 10 miles west of Alderney in England. His craft at the time was 30 miles away from the island and had an elevation of 4,000ft.

... It was a very sharp, thin yellow object with a green area. It was 2,000ft up and stationary, I thought it was about 10 miles away, although I later realised it was approximately 40 miles from us. At first, I thought it was the size of a 737. But it must have been much bigger because of how far away it was. It could have been as much as a mile wide. ...

As Bowyer approached Alderney, he noticed another object identical to the first one.

... It was exactly the same but looked smaller because it was further away. It was closer to Guernsey. I can’t explain it. At first, I thought it might have been a reflection from a vinery in Guernsey, but that would have disappeared quickly. This was clearly visual for about nine minutes. As I got closer to it, it became clear to me that it was tangible. I was in two minds about going towards it to have a closer look but decided against it because of the size of it. I had to think of the safety of the passengers first. I’m certainly not saying that it was something of another world. All I’m saying is that I have never seen anything like it before in all my years of flying. ...

Bowyer, who has been flying commercial aircrafts for about 20 years, said that he did file a report on the incident and did contact air traffic controllers during the incident.

Paul Kelly, 31, who was the Jersey Airport air traffic controller on duty during the incident, said that the airport received simultaneous reports from the Aurigny and Blue Island pilot and that the Blue Island pilot had reported a UFO approximately 1,500ft underneath his plane. Kelly noted that the airport was unable to detect the object on their radar.

... The pilot from Blue Islands was en route to Jersey at the same time and as he went past Sark he described an object behind him to his left. The description was very similar to Captain Bowyer’s and they described it as being in exactly the same place. But they were looking at it from opposite sides. The Blue Islands plane was at 3,500ft at the time so, again, both pilots placed it at the same altitude. If the object was stationary, our equipment would not have picked it up because the radar would have screened it out. ...

John Spencer, deputy chairman of the British UFO Research Association, said: "These types of sightings have been reported by pilots - generally accepted to be reliable and sensible observers - since the 1940s and they have excited attention to this day. Such light effects are often popularly thought to represent alien visitors but many UFO researchers believe they more likely represent natural atmospheric phenomena not yet fully understood by science. However, a similar encounter in 1978 over the Bass Straits in Australia, where the pilot was in radio contact with the ground throughout, resulted in the pilot never being heard from again, so these phenomena are important to study."

Nick Pope, who previously worked for the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence, said: "While no witnesses are infallible, pilots are trained observers and less likely than most people to misidentify something mundane. The MoD's UFO case files contain several reports from civil and military pilots, some of which were correlated by radar. This is the sort of sighting that is taken seriously and should be investigated thoroughly. While most UFOs can be explained as misidentifications of aircraft, weather balloons, satellites and suchlike, a small percentage are more difficult to explain. This is one of the most intriguing sightings I've heard about in recent years."

The current spokesperson for the UK Ministry of Defence said that they would not be investigating this incident.

HOW UFO FEVER TAXED MEN FROM THE MINISTRY A report of alien sightings prompted floods of letters to the MoD, reports Alan Hamilton. New laws have made these public, explains Frances Gibb. While British and American defence chiefs were supposed to be keeping a watchful eye on the Soviet threat in Europe during the 1980s, they were spending an undue amount of energy dealing with little green men. The so-called Rendlesham File, now available for public inspection, is a fat catalogue of increasingly despairing correspondence between the Ministry of Defence and members of the public after the sighting of unexplained lights in Rendlesham Forest, near the RAF base at Woodbridge, Suffolk, in December 1980. The story was given wing by its detailed disclosure in the News of the World in 1983. Soon after the alleged incident, reported by the USAF deputy base commander at nearby Bentwaters, the MoD drew up an internal memo: "No evidence was found of any threat to the defence of the United Kingdom, and no further investigations were carried out. "No further information has come to light which alters our view that the sightings of these lights was of no defence significance." Nothing was picked up on radar that night, officials added, and they concluded that the airmen had confused the lights with the beam of Orford Ness lighthouse, distorted by trees, or a natural fireball. But the Ministry and the RAF were bombarded with inquiries from the public.Officials suggested that besieged officers at Bentwaters should take the line that "there was no question of any contact with alien beings." They should also dismiss rumours that the UFO story was a cover- up for the crash of an aircraft carrying nuclear material. Still the letters poured in. Two years later an increasingly short- tempered MoD was writing to one correspondent demanding a full investigation: "There is no organisation in MoD appointed soleyl for the purpose of studying reports of such objects, and no staff are employed on the subject full-time." It added: "We have to recognise that there are many strange things to be seen in the sky, but we believe there are adequate explanations for them." Things got worse as forged letters purporting to come from MoD officials began to circulate. One, apparently on Ministry notepaper, claimed that a craft of unknown origin and "crewed by several entities" had landed near Bentwaters. The entities, it went on, were about one and a half metres tall and wore nylon-coated pressure suits but no helmets. They had claw-like hands with three digits and an opposable thumb. One self-styled researcher into "cosmic conspiracy", having seen the letter, wrote to the MoD requesting further information on the craft which had landed for several hours to carry out repairs, during which time the USAF base commander had conversed with its crew. An MoD official replied tersely: "I am afraid that it is a forgery... I have no idea where it came from or why it was written and can only conclude that it was intended by someone as a joke." MPs forwarded letters from worried constituents convinced of a cover-up. One passed on by David Alton, MP, said in part: "There is clear evidence that British airspace and territory were intruded upon by an unidentified vehicle on two occasions in late December 1980, and that no authority was able to prevent this." Some correspondents continued to harry MoD until officials were driven to reply: "I suggest that there is little point in continuing this correspondence." The final letter in the fiel is dated July 1992, in which an MoD official writes to the RAF liaison officer at Bentwaters asking if the original USAF report of the sightings was genuine, "as a number of hoaxes have been circulating for years." Squadron Leader P. Rooney at Bentwaters had the last word: "I have no records on this subject and the file to which you refer has long been destroyed." WHAT AIRMEN FOUND IN THE WOODS A GRAPHIC description of the "unusual lights" that were suspected of being a UFO is described in the Rendlesham file. The lights were spotted by two USAF security police patrolmen, according to a report dated January 1981 headed "unexplained lights," written by Lieutenant Colonel Charles Halt, deputy base commander at RAF Bentwaters in Suffolk. He states: "Thinking an aircraft might have crashed or been forced down, they called for permission to go outside the gates and investigate. "The individuals reported seeing a strange glowing object in the forest. The object was described as being metallic in appearance and triangular in shape, approximately two to three metres across the base and approximately two metres high. It illuminated the entire forest with a white light. "The object itself had a pulsing red light on top and a bank of blue lights underneath. The object was hovering or on legs. The object was hovering or on legs. As the patrolmen approached the object, it manoeuvred through the trees and disappeared. At this time, the animals on a nearby farm went into a frenzy. The object was briefly sighted approximately an hour later near the back gate." The report goes on to describe the depressions found in the ground and in a tree the next day. "Later in the night, a red sun-light light was seen through the trees. It moved about and pulsed. At one point it appeared to throw off glowing particles and then broke into five separate white objects and then disappeared. "Immediately thereafter, three star-like objects were noticed in the sky, two objects to the north and one to the south, all of which were about ten degrees off the horizon." The MoD made further inquiries. No unidentified flying object had been seen on radar at the times in question nor was there any evidence of anything having intruded into British airspace. One theory, it concluded, was that what was seen was the beam of Orford Ness lighthouse, with distortions caused by its being seen through trees. But "in the absence of any hard evidence" the MoD remains open-minded about these sightings. PUBLIC'S RIGHT TO KNOW EXTENDED DETAILS about UFO sightings, clinical trials, accident investigations and Whitehall meetings will be released to the public under plans to open up government. Public access to information from government bodies is to be extended by the scrapping and amending of up to 100 pieces of legislation, the Lord Chancellor's Department announced yesterday. The changes are being made under the Freedom of Information Act which is being phased in over the next three years. >From Sunday the first tranche of hitherto secret information is released when government departments publish their own schemes of legislation which they plan to release to the public. The material will be made available immediately on departmental websites or through application by post. The Ministry of Defence achives will include information on UFOs, including the Rendlesham File about a UFO report in Suffolk in 1980. The Lord Chancellor's Department is to publish the guidance given to lawyers applying to be Queen's Counsel or judges.

Nick Pope Says Mystery Craft Often Penetrate UK Defenses [From 1991 until 1994, Nick Pope worked the "UFO desk" at Air Secretariat 2-A, British Ministry of Defense. His job was to assess UFO reports for any possible defense significance. He found that his predecessor had treated all UFO reports as automatically mundane and essentially trivial. But Pope, though not a "believer," decided to do his job as if the true significance of any UFO report was actually unknown until studied. What he learned gradually convinced him that at least some UFOs were most certainly technological objects of unknown origin, potentially of great significance to the defense of Great Britain. In June of 1996, he published a book called "Open Skies, Closed Minds" which described his personal evolution as a UFO investigator and his views on the seriousness of UFO phenomena. CNI News editor Michael Lindemann met with Nick Pope on November 17, 1996, during a UFO conference at Blackpool, England. Pope is 31 years of age, resides in London, and has worked as a civilian in various departments of the Ministry of Defense since 1985. He has not served in the armed forces. Though he left the UFO desk in 1994, he still works for the MoD and now pursues UFO investigations outside his regular job. CNI News thanks Celeste for transcribing the original interview tape.] by Michael Lindemann ML: In general, what does Secretariat Air Staff do? NP: Secretariat Air Staff, a division of about 30 people, acts as an interface between the Royal Air Force and everybody else, like the press, Parliament, and the public. When things happen that you have to, for example, prepare a press line on, we are the people who interface with the military and translate the raw data into a user-friendly description of what happened. And, of course, in doing so, we try to allay people's concerns. ML: How did it happen that you were assigned to the UFO desk? NP: I fell into the job by accident, really. I had been working in another part of Secretariat Air Staff in a job that I didn't particularly like. Then, during the Persian Gulf War, I was working in the Joint Operations Center in the Ministry of Defense Main Building. While I was doing that job, I was working directly for a chap [who] worked in Secretariat Air Staff 2. He had a vacancy coming up and he said, "Look, after the Gulf War is finished, instead of going back to your old job, why don't we do an internal reshuffle, and you can have the UFO job if you want it." So it didn't even go through the Personnel Section. I was never quizzed about my knowledge or beliefs on UFOs. It was simply the fact that he offered me the job, and I felt, Well, why not? ML: Were you enthused about it? NP: Part of me, if I'm being honest, was just so keen to get out of the old job that I would have jumped at anything. But, of course, I won't say that I wasn't a little bit intrigued to know why the Ministry of Defense was looking at UFOs. ML: How would you characterize your previous interest or attitude toward UFOs? NP: I would say that it wasn't so much a question of being skeptical; I just didn't know anything about it and had never really thought about it. In my entire life, as far as I can recollect, I had never read a complete book on UFOs. ML: When you came to this job, to whom did you report, and what were you supposed to accomplish? NP: The chain of command is quite complicated. Being a division which worked very closely with the military, there was a dual chain of command, so you would report up the political chain to somebody called Assistant Undersecretary Commitments, and ultimately up to Defense Ministers, the Secretary of State for Defense. And then we were partly accountable on the military chain, too, to the Assistant Chief of the Air Staff and then the Chief of the Air Staff. But that's typical at Ministry of Defense. As to what we were supposed to do, the brief, in a nutshell, was to evaluate the UFO reports that came to us, to [see] whether there was a threat of any sort to the defense of the UK. Now, the party line was that unless there was evidence of any threat, that's where our involvement ended, and it wasn't then our job to go on and actually investigate each and every report. I took the view that you couldn't say there was no threat until you knew what these objects were that were being reported. So that gave me the hook upon which to hang my investigations. I inherited a situation where people were really doing little more than sending out letters. "Dear Mr. Smith, what you saw was probably aircraft lights, it's nothing to worry about. Thanks for writing. Goodbye." I didn't think that was really good enough. I started off playing by those rules. But in the course of my three years, from 1991 to 1994, gradually my views began to evolve. As I got more and more reports, I became gradually convinced that there was more to this than just aircraft lights. ML: Can you point to any event, or sequence of events, that caused you to decide there was really something important here? NP: I think the moment where I really felt, "Okay, this is it, I'm not playing any more," was a wave of sightings that occurred on the 30th and 31st of March, 1993. We had several hundred reports that came our way. Many of the witnesses were police. A lot of police in the southwest of the country, in Devon and Cornwall, saw something. Now, as with all of these big waves of sightings, quite a lot of the reports were fairly mundane, lights in the sky. But even so, it was quite late at night -- most of these reports were between, say, 1:00 and 1:30 in the morning -- and because there were police officers on night patrol, you're dealing with more than average recognition training, and people used to being out and about, and used to seeing lights and other things in the sky. Repeatedly, I heard the phrase, "This was like nothing I'd ever seen before in my life." People were genuinely quite spooked by this. What was generally reported was two lights, flying in a perfect formation, with a third, much fainter light -- our old friend the flying triangle, really. The lights were described as being in a triangle formation. It's difficult to say, of course. It's quite possible they could have been three separate things flying in formation, but the impression from talking to witnesses was that this was a triangular craft with lights mounted on the underside, at the edges. The most interesting reports, of course, were the ones which occurred at close distance. There was a family in Staffordshire who apparently saw this thing so low -- and they described it as either triangular or diamond shaped -- that they leapt into their car and tried to chase it. They didn't succeed, although at one point they thought it was so low that it had actually come down in a field. It wasn't there when they got to it. They described a low, humming sound, a very low-frequency sound. They said you didn't just hear this sound, you felt it, like standing in front of a bass speaker. The really intriguing thing was that this object, whatever it was, then proceeded to fly over two military bases. It was seen by the guard patrol at RAF Cosford, about three or four people, [who] made an instant report of this, obviously because it had flown over their base. They checked radar. There was nothing on the screens, nothing at all, and there was nothing scheduled to fly. No military or civil aircraft should have been airborne in that area at all. They phoned the nearby base at RAF Shawbury, about 12 miles away from Cosford. The meteorological officer there took the call. He was a man with about eight years experience of looking into the night sky and then doing the weather report for the next day. So he knew his way around objects and phenomena. Now, to his absolute amazement, he saw a light in the distance, coming closer and closer. That light eventually resolved itself into a solid structured craft that he saw again flying directly over the base, but at much closer proximity than the guard patrol at Cosford had seen it. He estimated that the height of the object was no more than 200 feet. Its size, he said, was midway between a C-130 Hercules transport aircraft and a Boeing 747. He heard the low hum, too. He had not spoken to any other witnesses, except the Cosford people, who I don't think had reported the sound. He reported this low-frequency hum. Perhaps most disturbingly of all, he reported this thing throwing a beam of light down at the nearby countryside and fields just beyond the perimeter fence at the base. And this light was tracking backwards and forwards, he said to me, "as if it was looking for something." The beam of light then retracted, and the craft moved off. It was traveling very slowly, I should say, probably no more than 20 or 30 mph. Then it gained a little bit of height, and then it just shot off to the horizon in little more than a second. Needless to say, that was a description I had come across many times in other UFO reports, the virtual hover to the high-Mach accelerations in an instant. I launched a full investigation. I made all the usual checks, trying to track down aircraft movement, satellite activity, airships, weather balloons, meteorites, etc., etc. I drew a blank -- with one exception -- and then put a report up the chain of command. The exception was a ballistic missile early warning sensor at RAF Fylingdales, in North Yorkshire. It is estimated that at some stage in the night there had been a rocket reentry of, I think, Cosmos 2238, which might have caused a very brief firework display in the high atmosphere. It's just possible that some of the vague lights-in-the-sky sightings might have been explained in that way, although Fylingdales didn't seem very sure on whether [the satellite re-entry] was actually going to be visible from the UK at all. But, clearly, it wouldn't explain the sighting of the family in Staffordshire and, most importantly of all, the direct overflight of the military bases, particularly the meteorological officer's report. He had obviously seen a structured craft. This to me really [refuted] any idea that these things are of no defense significance. You had a craft which, whatever it was, had penetrated our defense region. It wasn't on our radar, and we hadn't got our air defense fighters out. So whether it was extraterrestrial or not, there was something which we all should have been very concerned about. The debate got bogged down in the search for Aurora, the alleged hypersonic replacement to the SR-71 Blackbird. We were chasing our tails trying to find out whether there was such a thing. We were asking the Americans, "Are you operating a prototype aircraft in our airspace?" That, of course, was nonsense. You simply would not do that from a diplomatic and political point of view. It would undermine the entire structure of NATO if you were putting things through someone else's airspace, particularly a close ally, without seeking the proper diplomatic clearance. But we had to ask. And the Americans, having had similar reports, I guess, since the Hudson Valley wave [New York state, mid-1980s], had been quietly asking us if we had some large, triangular shaped object that could go from 0 to Mach 5 in a second. Our response was that we wished we did. This was the bizarre situation: that we were chasing the Americans, and the Americans were chasing us. Meanwhile, I suspected a third party was having a laugh! ML: You ran this up the chain of command, and you went through all the necessary procedures. Did you, in the end, hit a blank wall? Was there any follow-through, any aftermath to this, any inkling that policy was in motion over this? NP: I put a report up the chain of command, and it ended up on the desk of the Assistant Chief of the Air Staff, who is an Air Vice Marshall. The report ended up on his desk, but to be fair, I had made pretty much all of the checks that could possibly be made, so while he was undoubtedly interested in it, he could say little more than, "Well, this is interesting, good investigation, well done, but there is nothing further we can do." I do have some sympathy because, of course, so much of ufology is a study of something that isn't there anymore. So the critics would say that he should have done more, but I'm not sure that there is that much more that he could do. I think the report did change attitudes, albeit in a very subtle and gradual way. It made people in the chain of command think. It was the first time I could recall a UFO report ending up on the desk of the Assistant Chief of the Air Staff, to look at it from a defense and national security viewpoint. Maybe it got him thinking. Certainly when I socialized with my RAF colleagues, I would find that they were a little bit more receptive to the idea of UFOs -- and by that I mean perhaps even an extraterrestrial explanation for this -- than you might have supposed. One of the reasons for that was that so many RAF pilots had actually seen things themselves. Many of them have never made an official report. I had one chap tell me that he had seen something over the North Sea. I asked him why he hadn't reported it, and he said, "I don't want to be known as Flying Saucer Fred for the rest of my career." But there were some reports occasionally made up the military chain of command. On the fifth of November 1990, a flight of Tornado aircraft were returning to the UK across the North Sea when they were overtaken at high speed by a UFO. They reported it. They speculated that it might be a Stealth, but my impression was that they were only saying that because it was the only thing they knew how to say. But this was really interesting, because you had pretty much the best jet in the RAF just made to look totally ineffective by being overtaken and left standing by this object, whatever it was. Now, questions have been asked in our Parliament about this very recently, in the Autumn of 1996. The official line from the Ministry of Defense is, "Yes, this happened. No, we don't know what it is, but we say that it is of no defense significance." How can it possibly be of no defense significance when your best jet is left for standing by a UFO? And, again, how can it be of no defense significance when your air defense region is routinely penetrated by structured craft? ML: This seemingly irrational denial of significant UFO events could be interpreted as evidence of a deliberate cover-up. What are your views on that? NP: I found no evidence to support a cover-up in Britain. I think, without trying to sound too arrogant, that I would have gotten a few hints in three years if there had been someone doing my job but on a covert basis, not least because the one thing they would have needed beyond anything else was access to the raw data of the witnesses, and never once in three years had any witness complained that I had sent someone around to the house. ML: How about your view on cover-ups, say, among the Americans? Any sense of that? NP: That was a little more complicated. The one thing that I tried to do very quickly in my tour of duty was to establish contact with an American opposite member, because I thought it was sensible to tap into the expertise which I was sure must exist there, and to exchange data, given that Britain and America work very closely on all sorts of other defense issues. I made extensive inquiries both through the American Embassy in London and through the British Embassy in Washington, but I drew a complete blank. I couldn't find anyone who claimed to be investigating UFOs for the [U.S.] government. I was told, "No, since Project Blue Book was closed down in 1969 we just have not done it anymore." Now, I found that bizarre and, I would have to say, a bit at odds with authenticated Freedom of Information documents, which seem to suggest that various agencies in America have been up to their eyeballs in UFO research. But, for whatever reason, I simply couldn't get access. And it was my perception that -- I have to be careful what I say of my close allies and friends, of course -- certainly the full story was not being told, and the true nature of involvement and the true situation had not really been made public in the States. But in Britain, I do think that if anything has been covered up about UFOs corporately, it's just how little we know; there's a coverup of ignorance and prejudice. Time and again when you would brief people, they would repeatedly say, "Of course, I don't believe in UFOs." You'd be talking about a structured craft of unknown origin -- you'd be talking, say, about a near miss between a UFO and a civil airliner -- but the moment you use the word "UFO," people just switched off. They didn't want to know. You were dealing with someone's belief system and, you know, the language is incredibly biased. So if you talk about unauthorized penetration of the UK air defense region, people will listen. But if you talk about a UFO, they won't, although you had just been talking about the same thing, using different language. It's a question of mindset, as well. The Ballistic Early Warning Center at Fylingdales was saying that they frequently got fireballs on their screens, and they say that they flash across at speeds of several thousand miles an hour. And the question was put to them, "How do you know that they are fireballs?" And they said, "Well, because they go very fast." Now, that is the view that I was up against, and that is the paradigm you have to challenge if you want anyone to take this seriously. ML: Lately in Great Britain there have been a number of serious UFO incidents. One apparently occurred in the region called the Wash near Skegness on October 5 [see CNI News 2.15 of October 16, 1996], involving many military and police witnesses. What update can you give on that? NP: The incident on the Wash was fascinating because there were sightings reported by the police at Skegness, and various other witnesses, including the crew of a civil oil tanker. People were seeing green and red lights in the sky. Now at first sight that might have indicated some sort of aircraft activity, but this was pretty much staying in the same place, and it continued to stay there for some hours. Simultaneously, this was picked up on several different radar systems, both military and civil. The most bizarre thing about this is that jets were not scrambled. This to me seems quite extraordinary: that you can have a visual sighting of a UFO, which has clearly penetrated our air defenses, whatever it is, coupled with this thing showing up on several different radar screens, yet our air defense aircraft sit there quite casually on the ground. Now, that poses the question, "Why?" And it is my understanding that a member of Parliament here has raised that very question with Secretary of State for Defense, [asking], "What is the standard practice about scrambling jets? What has to happen before our air defense aircraft get off the ground here?" The incident remains unexplained, but clearly raises some serious questions about the way in which we police our air defense region. ML: Now that you're well away from the UFO desk at Ministry of Defense, are you continuing to pursue your research? What are you working on now? NP: At the moment, I'm working on the abduction mystery. I'm writing a book which is to be called "The Uninvited." In Britain it's scheduled for June 1997, published by Simon and Schuster. It attempts to be an overview of the abduction phenomenon, with part two of the book being a series of cases that people won't have come across before, with various abductees telling their own stories, with a minimum of spin from me. So that's taking up all of my time at the moment. But I continue my research into UFOs and abductions on a private basis. I was touched by this subject when I was doing it officially, and like many who are touched by it, you find that you simply can't walk away from it. ML: Undoubtedly you are aware of nay-sayers who respond to all these claims of UFOs with a variety of theories ranging from "honest mistakes" to various forms of psychopathology, hoaxes, and so forth. For yourself, coming out of the Ministry of Defense environment, and having had some experience with a fairly hard edge of the phenomenon, how do you respond to those types of remarks? NP: Many skeptics raise entirely valid points, and my official research and investigation certainly [supported] the fact that nine out of ten UFOs have conventional explanations. They are either misidentifications, or some sort of psychological or psychopathological explanation, or simply somebody making it up because they're fantasy-prone. [But] that to me does not explain the whole story. It seems to me there is a technology on display which goes beyond the cutting edge of our own. People talk about prototype aircraft, but in my experience you simply don't fly those over populated areas where they can be photographed and put on the front page of the next morning's newspaper. If that's your best bit of hardware, you just don't risk it like that. And you don't fly into other people's air space without diplomatic clearance, either. I concentrate on the science. I'm interested in the UFOs seen by the police and military witnesses. I'm interested in the near misses that pilots report, where their aircraft nearly collide with these things. I'm interested in the visual sightings backed up by radar. I'm interested in the military bases that are overflown by these things. I'm interested in the cases where you have radiation readings on the ground. These are no lights in the sky. These are not misidentifications or fantasy prone individuals. This is a cutting-edge technology being reported by reliable, trained observers, and it is something that goes beyond what we can do. That to me suggests that if it is not ours, it belongs to someone else. If that technology is better than ours, then the extraterrestrial hypothesis seems to me the best explanation.

Geometrical Objects

The earliest recorded UFO sighting by an airline pilot, during the initial flurry of sightings in the United States, was the report by Capt. E. J. Smith, United Airlines, July 4, 1947. Flying a DC-3 from Boise, Idaho, to Portland, Oregon, Captain Smith and his crew observed two separate groups of flat round objects ahead, silhouetted against the sunset. The UFOs were visible for about 10 minutes over a distance of about 45 miles, opening and closing formation. In the second group of UFOs, three operated close together, and a fourth was off to one side by itself.

Since that date, dozens of pilots on all the major airlines have reported UFOs.

Private pilots, also, have witnessed typical geometrical UFOs. During July 1948, in Pasco, Washington, Don Newman (former Air Force pilot) watched a disc-shaped UFO with a dome on top maneuvering over the city at 1:00 p.m. "The exterior finish appeared to be spun or brushed aluminum," Newman said in his report to NICAP. The UFO alternately slowed and accelerated rapidly, diving, and climbing over the area. [32]

On March 18, 1950, Robert Fisher was flying his family from Chicago to Keokuk, Iowa. Near Bradford, Illinois, at 8:40 a.m., he spotted an oval, metallic-appearing disc ahead and slightly to the left of his Bonanza NC 505B. The UFO was moving on a course of about 120 degrees true. (Fisher was flying a southwesterly course, approximately 225 degrees.) The UFO shone in the sunlight, but when it flew below an overcast continued to glow, indicating that it was self-illuminated. It quickly moved off into the distance, at a speed estimated to be 600 to 1,000 mph. [33]

Near Goshen, Indiana, April 27, 1950, a bright orange-red disc paced a Trans World Airways DC-3, which was piloted by Capts. Robert Adickes and Robert F. Manning. As the crew and many passengers watched, the UFO pulled alongside the plane. It looked "like a big red wheel rolling along." Each time the pilot moved toward the object, it moved away as if controlled by repulse radar. When the pilot turned, the disc dove (presenting an edge-on view) and sped off to the north toward South Bend. [34]

A month later (May 29), an American Airlines plane departed Washington, D. C., enroute south over Virginia. About 9:30 p.m., First Officer Bill Gates noticed a light approaching the airliner head-on and notified Capt. Willis T. Sperry. Flight Engineer Robert Arnholt also witnessed what followed. An unidentified object with a brilliant bluish light on the leading edge neared, and seemed to stop. Suddenly it darted to the left of the plane, stopped for a few seconds, then circled around to the right. There it was silhouetted against the moon, revealing a torpedo-shaped or narrow elliptical body. Finally the UFO sped away to the east. Captain Sperry called the speed "fantastic," and said it was "without a doubt beyond the limits of any known aircraft speeds." [35]

A "perfectly round disc" hovering above the Hanford atomic plant, Richland, Washington, was observed by four veteran pilots July 5, 1952. The four Conner Airlines pilots were interviewed by United Press when they landed in Denver, Colorado, and their story was put on the newswires that day.

Capt. John Baldwin (former Air Force pilot, with 7000 hours airline pilot experience at the time) said he was flying near the Hanford atomic plant at about 9000 feet. The UFO was noticed above the plane about 6:00 a.m. It was "just below a deck of wispy clouds about 10,000 to 15,000 feet directly above us," Baldwin said. He described it as "a perfectly round disc, white in color and almost transparent with small vapor trails off it like the tentacles of an octopus." [cf., September 24, 1959 FAA case below]

Capt. George Robertson, D. Shenkel (both former Air Force pilots) and Steven Summers confirmed Baldwin's report. "All of us have been flying a number of years," Baldwin said, "and we've seen all kinds of clouds and formations, but none of us had ever seen anything like this before."

At first, the UFO was hovering. Then it "seemed to back away" and tilt edge-on. "It became flat, gained speed and then disappeared quickly," Baldwin reported

If UFOs had not been reported by pilots of scheduled airliners, and military pilots in operation all over the globe, there might be some justification in writing off reports of ground observers as mistaken observations. For, if unknown objects are maneuvering in our skies, pilots would be among the most likely to see them. (Others whose professions cause them to spend many hours watching the skies, such as General Mills Corporation balloon trackers, also have reported numerous UFOs. [1])Airline and military pilots are among the most experienced observers of the sky. Their profession requires them to spend hundreds of hours per year in the air. Few, if any, occupations require more practical knowledge of weather, other aircraft, and unusual activity such as missile tests. Undoubtedly, few groups of observers have seen more meteors or watched planets under a wider variety of sky conditions. In addition, professional pilots normally are trained in rapid identification of anything which may endanger a flight. Therefore, it is significant that airline and military pilots have reported a large number of totally unexplained UFO sightings. Recognizing that airline pilots have special training and are in a unique position for observation, the Defense Department includes them in the military system of reporting vital intelligence sightings (CIRVIS), as detailed in the Joint Chiefs regulation JANAP-146(D). [See Section IX.] In 1954, the groundwork for CIRVIS reports was laid by meetings between representatives of the airlines and Military Air Transport Service (MATS) intelligence branch. The reason? "The nation's 8,500 commercial airline pilots have been seeing a lot of unusual objects while flying at night, here and overseas," Scripps-Howard reported. "But," the report continued, "there hasn't been much of an organized system of reporting to military authorities. . . [the airlines and MATS] agreed to organize a speedy reporting system so that a commercial pilot spotting strange objects could send the word to the Air Force in a hurry. The Air Force could then send jet fighters to investigate." [2]With a few exceptions, most UFO reports on record from military pilots have come from the World War II and Korean War eras, or from recently retired officers. Military pilots, naturally, are restricted from discussing the sightings freely while they are on active duty. But airline pilots (although in recent years some times under pressure from their companies not to discuss sightings) have contributed some of the best reports on record.There had been scattered reports by airline pilots previously but "In the Spring of 1950," the former Chief of the Air Force UFO project reported, "the airline pilots began to make more and more reports - - good reports. . . In April, May, and June of 1950 there were over thirty-five good reports from airline crews." [3] That June, Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker said in an interview:"Flying saucers are real. Too many good men have seen them, that don't have hallucinations." Flying magazine, July 1950, published a roundup report on pilot sightings, giving them very serious treatment (as did other aviation journals in later years; for example, see RAF Flying Review, July 1957).

When NICAP was formed in 1956, four airline pilots (two of whom had personally sighted UFOs) joined the NICAP Panel of Special Advisers. Federal Aviation Agency personnel, aviation industry engineers, and other aviation experts also related their sightings and offered their services. Astronaut's alien claims fall short, says UFO researcher

A former NASA astronaut stunned the scientific world and divided UFO watchers when he claimed last week that UFOs and aliens do exist.In 1971 during the Apollo 14 mission Edgar Mitchell became the sixth man to walk on the moon.Thirty-seven years on he says he's just one of a handful in the space community who has been briefed by US military and intelligence officials on the existence of aliens.But UFO believers says these revelations may have done their cause more harm than good.Keith Basterfield is co-director of the Australian UFO research network and is author of several books on UFO sightings in Australia.He says he believes Dr Mitchell may have damaged the work of serious scientific researchers into UFOs due to the former astronaut's broad claims and his inability to source what he's presenting as fact."Dr Mitchell declines to name the sources he is getting this information from," Mr Basterfield says. "It's always an unnamed source, or a source close to the Minister of Defence. You cannot take that as evidence of fact."He's making those statements, obviously he's gone public with them, but there is always doubt that the sources he is talking to aren't playing the disinformation game with him."Edgar Mitchell holds several science degrees and a doctorate of science in aeronautics and astronautics.

He was an accomplished US Navy pilot before being invited by NASA to join the space program.He was a back-up pilot on the Apollo 10 mission and then he walked on the moon for nine hours and 17 minutes as part of the Apollo 14 crew.The other side to Major Mitchell is his main interest in life: the study of consciousness, paranormal phenomena, and psychic events. Major Mitchell also believes he was cured of kidney cancer by a remote healer who helped him using positive thought.He told a British radio station last week that he has been told in detail by senior US officials about UFOs and their occupants. He says aliens who have visited Earth have been non-hostile and he's even been briefed on their physical appearance.The French and British Government have begun releasing former secret military files on UFOs.

The Australian Government is beginning to do the same.But Keith Basterfield says so far none have revealed definite proof that craft or beings from another planet have visited Earth."The more one conducts rigorous investigation, rigorous interviews, looking for documentation within government sources for evidence, it is tantalising, but certainly I agree that there is no concrete evidence today where you could present to somebody and it would hold up as having only one possible explanation," he says.

UNIDENTIFIED FLYING OBJECTS (UFO)

Almost every civilization that has kept a written history has recorded the sighting of strange objects and lights in the skies. Today, unexplained aerial phenomena are generally referred to as unidentified flying objects or flying saucers.Descriptions of UFOs have ranged from glowing wheels to colored balls of light to cigar-, disk-, or crescent-shaped objects.

One of the first well-documented UFO sightings occurred in 1561 in Nuremberg, Germany. A broadsheet published that year describes red, blue, and black balls or plates, crosses, and tubes that appeared to battle each other in the sky over the city.The term flying saucer was coined in 1947. A businessman named Kenneth Arnold told reporters that while flying a private airplane near Mount Rainier in Washington he saw nine objects flying over the mountain in formation and at a speed of more than 1,600 miles (2,500 kilometers) per hour. Arnold described the objects as moving like "a saucer skipping across the water." After that first report, Arnold's description was shortened and it soon became popular to call all UFOs flying saucers.The United States government has records of thousands of UFO sightings, including photos of alleged UFOs and interviews with people who claim to have seen them. Since UFOs were considered a potential security risk, the report on these sightings was originally classified as secret. When the report was later declassified it showed that 90 percent of all UFO sightings could be easily explained. Most of the sightings turned out to be celestial objects, such as stars or bright planets like Venus, or atmospheric events such as auroras or meteors falling through the atmosphere. Many other sightings turned out to be such objects as weather balloons, satellites, aircraft lights, or formations of birds. Often these sightings were accompanied by unusual weather conditions.

In 1948 the United States Air Force began the government's first official UFO panel, Project Sign, which studied 243 sightings. It was replaced by Project Grudge, which investigated another 244 sightings. In March 1952 the most ambitious of the UFO panels, Project Blue Book, was organized by the Air Force. The panel employed a number of scientists, including physicists, engineers, meteorologists, and an astronomer. Project Blue Book had three main goals: to explain all reported sightings of UFOs; to decide if UFOs posed a threat to the national security of the United States; and to determine whether UFOs were using any advanced technology that the United States could use.By the mid-1960s UFO reports were more numerous than ever. For the first time they were coming in regularly from places outside the United States, including Canada, Sweden, the Soviet Union, and Australia. In February 1966 another UFO panel was convened. Like the others, this panel determined that the vast majority of UFO reports were either natural phenomena or outright hoaxes.A few scientists publicly disagreed with the panel's conclusions. This group, which included James E. McDonald, a meteorologist at the University of Arizona, and J. Allen Hynek, an astronomer at Northwestern University, maintained that since a few of the most reliable UFO reports had never been clearly explained, this was definite proof that Earth was being visited by extraterrestrials.The dissenting scientists' opinion was received coldly by the mainstream scientific community. In 1968 the United States Air Force asked Edward U. Condon, a physicist at the University of Colorado, to head a panel studying the extraterrestrial hypothesis (see Extraterrestrial Life).

The committee's final report, 'A Scientific Study of UFOs', which covered detailed investigations of 59 UFO sightings, was reviewed by a special committee of the National Academy of Sciences and released in early 1969. The 37 scientists who contributed to the report interviewed UFO witnesses and studied physical and photographic evidence. The report, also known as the Condon Report, concluded that not only was there no evidence of extraterrestrial control of UFOs but also that no further UFO studies were needed.Based on the recommendations of the Condon Report, Project Blue Book was closed in December 1969. By the time the project was disbanded, it had amassed some 80,000 pages of information on 12,618 reported UFO sightings and events, each of which was ultimately classified as either "identified" with a known astronomical, atmospheric, or artificial phenomenon, or as "unidentified," including cases in which information was insufficient.The only other official and relatively complete records of UFO sightings were maintained in Canada, where they were transferred in 1968 from the Canadian Department of National Defense to the Canadian National Research Council. The Canadian records had totaled about 750 sightings and events in the late 1960s. Less complete records have been maintained by scientists in Great Britain, Sweden, Denmark, Australia, and Greece.Since the closing of Project Blue Book, the United States government has not had any official programs for studying UFOs. In 1973, however, a group of American scientists organized the Center for UFO Studies (now the J. Allen Hynek Center for UFO Studies, in Chicago, Ill.). It is one of several private groups that continue to study the phenomenon.According to a United States Air Force guide published on the subject, the reliability of witnesses is one of the main considerations in all UFO sightings. Also of note are the number of witnesses, how long they saw the UFO, how far away they were from the UFO, and the weather conditions at the time of the sighting. One of the most common features of UFO reports is that witnesses often insist that the objects they saw were under intelligent control. People frequently come to this conclusion because, like Kenneth Arnold, who saw flying saucers above Mount Rainier, they believe they see objects flying in formation or toward another object or changing direction or speed dramatically.People have a natural desire to explain and understand everything they see. This is why visual sightings of UFOs are the least reliable. The unaided human eye can be tricked to the point of hallucination. A bright light, such as the planet Venus, often appears to move, though a clamped telescope or a sighting bar shows it to be fixed. A visual impression of distance is also unreliable because it is based on an assumed size. Reflections from windows or eyeglasses may provide superimposed views. Optical defects can turn point sources of light into apparently saucer-shaped objects. Such optical illusions coupled with a desire to interpret visual images account for many UFO reports.Radar sightings, while more reliable in certain respects, do not provide the information necessary to discriminate between physical objects and such natural phenomena as meteor trails, tracks of ionized gas, rain, or thermal discontinuities. Furthermore, several effects can give false radar echoes: electronic interference, reflections from ionized layers or clouds, and reflections from a region of humidity--for example, a cumulus cloud.Even so-called contact events--in which activities besides sighting were reported--have been found most frequently to involve dreams or hallucinations. The reliability of such reports depends heavily on whether there were two or more independent witnesses present.
